Well, with all the tcontroversy over skating this week, I'm scared for the ladies. Indeed, this competition is packed with talent, but I find it unlikely there will be any surprise skaters standing on the podium (Who knows though, the judges will probably place Scott Hamilton on top. ;)) Personally, I want Michelle Kwan to win the Gold she deserved in 1998, and I pray it will come true. It would also be nice to see Maria on the podium, along with a suprise skater rounding out the top. Who knows? Hopefully he judging will be fair, and we can enjoy one of the Olympic's best sports! :)

GO MICHELLE! :)

I think Butyrskaya is beautiful :D

I haven't seen her mentioned as a medal contender this time, though. Why not?

If she lands these triple axels, could she make a run at the gold?

Where has she been placed in the judges' pre-decisions? ;) :p :D

I'm rooting for Kwan and Hughes, a fellow Long Islander, but I hope Maria can take third, or even second as long as Hughes gets the bronze :D

Take it to the bank, Michelle will win gold. Irina will get silver and Maria will get bronze.

Sarah, my fellow Long Islander, too, will be 4th. ;)

Maria can do triple axels? Personally, I believe Maria is always a threat to win a metal, much more than a hopeful American sweep. She has all the goods, she just has to keep her nerves in together and avoid sloppy, jerky jumps. I believe she is far more graceful on the ice than Irina, and displays more maturity and true passion. What do you guys think of Vanessa G. of France? She was the 1997 Worlds Bronze medalist but hasn't done anything terribly impressive since then?

If it's an extremely close race for gold between Kwan and Irina, I have no doubts Slutskaya will lose out. The judges will do everything to avoid more controversy on North American soil. The crowd would digest them alive!

Butyrskaya - amazing to see a female skater of that age still competing. I dearly hope she medals.

Go MICHELLEEEEE!!!!! What I want is:

1. Michelle
2. Irina
3. Maria or Sarah or Fumie

Both Sarah and Fumie have so mich time to improve, it is scary. Fumie will be out a year though to have surgury on her ankles. Maria is turning pro after this for sure. Michelle and Irina might just stay around till 2006. Michelle has said this countless times. Irina hasn't, but she is married and might want to have a child, so she might not stay.

danker's post slipped in before mine.

Fumie Suguri has a great chance for a medal. Her programs are great this year. She will need to skate late in the draw in both SP and LP. And will need to be CLEAN. No mistakes at all. She is fully capable of doing this. The draw for the SP is on sunday, so we will know soon. I can't believe it begins Tuesday! Yippee.

well, I am sort of torn between Michelle and Irina. I must say I really like both of them a lot, and I will be sad to see either get less than gold because they both deserve it.

I think the difficult thing is that I don't think they'd stick around for another Olympics, and it's times like these I *really* wish Michelle had won gold in Nagano, that way at leasty if Irina beat her here I could be happy that both were Olympic champions. Michelle is a phenomenal skater and 2 silver medals just doesn't do her justice with the amount of talent she has. I also feel the same for Irina, she's fought back so much in the last couple years and it'd be nice to see her cap it off with gold aswell.

Good luck to both, I wish them all the best :)

Fumie is very nice to watch- but lets be real. She needs to have the skate of her life in both the SP and LP (and finally land the 3lutz/3toe in her LP), and she needs for both Maria and Sarah to have at least two major errors in the LP. She can hold off Sasha ad Viktorya, maybe, if she nails everything, but a spot on the poduim is very, very unlikely for her. She doesn't have a prayer of beating Kwan or Slutskaya and she has zero margin for error.
