Personally, my favourite Russian is Anna Kournikova because of the variety and sparkle of her game. She can play powerful baseline tennis, gorgeous volleys, and anything in between. A truly great shot-maker.
I also like Anastasia Myskina for the same reasons, although she's rarely on television so I've only seen her play a couple of times.
Although I think Petrova, Bovina, Safina, Lina Krasnoroutskaya are great talents I have to say that I don't particularly enjoy watching them play.
While I think about it, TBE - is there any particular reason why Anna Kournikova is virtually the only Russian player _not_ on your signature? *just curious*
TBE - fair enough. Anna does seem to be something of a complex personality. On the one hand she works incredibly hard at her tennis and seems extremely close to her parents and on the other hand she has this glamourous lifestyle going on with calenders and photoshoots and all the rest of it. Her personality did kind of repell me to begin with, but I like her game so much that I can support her anyway.
She reminds me a little of Natasha Zvereva. Her game is more powerful, but has the same kind of style. She's also effortlessly cool with similar exuberance and sparkle in her on-court behaviour. And of course both have underachieved in singles while doing well in doubles. (This may yet change for Anna, but I'm talking about so far.) I do prefer Natasha, but I like Anna for the similarities that I can see between them.
My three favorite tennis players, Russian or not, are Maria the "Russian Lynx" Sharapova, Elena "darling" Dementieva and Anna "golden girl" Kournikova. I could only vote for one. So I voted for Maria. She seems to have the biggest upside of the three. Udachi Maria, Elena and Anna in 2002!
Petrova... well I cheer for her every time she plays a non-russian player (other than Seles Clijsters) but it seems to me that she doesn't think much when she plays ( I might be wrong cos I haven't seen that many of her matches and most of those I've seen were where she lost) and I think that she's less friendlier(nicer) than the other girls are(again I might be wrong).
Nadia is my favourite player not just because I like her play and find her...very pretty
(you haven't seen her in the life )
but although because I am extremly lucky to have the possibility to get tickets from her when she comes play at the French Open in june... she is really nice, generous and doesn't treat the others like some other stars (well...she isn't a big STAR like Anna K. yet, but it was important to underligne this attitude).
In one word:a good player and a great girl!
