My favorite tennis sounds when watching tennis would have to be

#1. Service Ace (ball hits racquet, court then back wall)
#2. Winner (ball hits racquet, court then back wall)
#3. Cyclops (I love that sound, I wish I had one rec. courts)
#4. Chair Umpire (especially Sandra de Jenken )
#5. A long rally (enough said)
#6. Footwork (espcially on clay or grass)

It could be!

The other day on the tennis court my buddy and I had a contest on the court. We both hit the ball as hard as we could, he made Monica Seles noises and I made Maria Sharapova noises. We are both guys and the people on the court next to us started laughing.

Everyything on the list that started the thread, plus:

- Chair umpires speaking in French ONLY, at Roland Garros :hearts:

- The sound of racquets cleanly hitting the ball in a match of two silent, non-grunting players, eg. Lindsay Davenport

- The words "Game, Set, Match, Justine Henin-Hardenne!" :D

- The clicks of a million cameras at the end of a great Final as the two warriors hoist the hardware

Great idea for a thread! I remember watching the 1993 Australian Open final, and Fred Stolle put it best when, after Monica Seles served an ace, "boy you could just hear that when the ball is struck perfectly, it just clicks". Of course, Steffi Graf hit many more of those "clickers" throughout her career, but on that day, Monica did serve pretty much out of her tree.

In no particular order : - The sound when the ball flies off Lindsay's racquet after she hit it right on the sweet spot. The ball striking of Lindsay makes me go crazy

- Jelena Dokic's "ttcheww"s
- The sound of running shoes squeaking on the hard courts. Especially indoors, during a long rally.
- AND! The sound of the ball hitting the tape of the net during a rally. Don't we all hold our breath for a moment when it happens ? ;) "Where's it gonna go, where's it gonna go"

When Dementieva screams after a missed shot

I don't remember Dokic's grunt... it's been so long

Cyclops? WTF is that?

The cyclops is used at Slams and bigger (non-clay) events to call serves. It sounds like an air horn when a serve lands outside the service box!!!!! You can't miss it! The US Open one sounds the best. Wimbledon's is really high pitched.

i like when the french umpires call out "juex, set, et match" to a loudly cheerly french crowd (like in the highlights of the french open that they offer on the website)

gives you goosebumps sometimes

that and a long rally with minimal grunting... ending in a winner and a loud "COME ON!"... jelena dokic, i've noticed, had the best come on's ;)

Sandra de Jenken, definitely :)

Wonder why SdJ doesn't have her own forum on this board yet :)
