Forgive me if you've already all shared your favourite moments. I've only just gotten back to the message board. Anyway, after the tragedy of September 11, sometimes it helps me to think back and remember the world as it was before that terrible day.
The 2001 Open wasn't very good for Tammy, as you may know, but our last day at the facilities was pampering and fun. John Barrett salon of Bergdorf Goodman provides haircuts, styling, manicures, pedicures and facials to players, guests, and staff. Tammy had forgotten to pick up a racquet she had left for restringing, so we paid a visit to the stadium on September 4. I suggested that we take advantage of the services offered, so Tammy and I booked appointments. I got a great haircut and Tammy got a manicure and pedicure.
The appointments were running late, so Tammy and I walked around, watched junior matches (Dinara Safina), shopped at the gift shops, ran into Ille Nastase (got a photo of Tammy with him for my dad), and then it started to rain. We went back to the mini salon and I still had to wait a bit as Emanuelle Gagliardi was getting her thick wavy hair blown straight. The co-owner of the salon had the cutest long-haired chihuahua. I think her name was Daisy, and Tammy and I really enjoyed playing with her while we waited.
At last I got to sit in the chair and get my hair cut. About 15 minutes into my cut, Guga's mom came in to get her hair styled (she was in the chair next to mine). She is such a beautiful lady, inside and out. Even though she didn't speak much English, it was obvious how much she enjoyed getting pampered. She smiled the whole time. I asked her how to say beautiful in Portugese (I can't remember-"bonita"? "bella"?), but she really reminded me of "Miss Ellie" of "Dallas" after the stylists were finished with her. No wonder Guga is so good looking! <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />
