Good draw, especially with a very winnable R1.

Kerber is another story, but she had MPs against her at the start of the season, so let's see what she can do here.

Sorana lost to Laura 4 and 2. She saved 2 MPs when Laura served for the match at 5-1 in a marathon game (there was also a marathon game at 1-4 where Sorana lost her serve eventually), but then Sorana lost her serve to lose the match.

Laura is in good form now and Sorana's current tennis was not quite good enough.

That second set was much more competitive than the score reflects.

Still your usual Sorana with great serving and ball striking, but little till no consistency, a pity.

Robson played very well, though.

Unexpected high quality match from both of girls, but Robson was the more consistent one.
I hope Sorana has able to recover well for Tokyo.

Well I stopped watching at 3-0 in 2nd sorana played poorly. first game she totally should break there. and the lots of netted balls and simply she was afraid of doing errors I felt like still she made way too many. I am not satisfied how she played. idk how she is almost top30 with that she needs to imrpove a lot yet. I dont see her beating Angie. depends if angie plays bad

First of all she has to beat Morita and I've just seen that she only dropped 6 games in 2 meetings against the Japanese so far. She should easily overpower her as long as she keeps her error margin low.

And against Kerber it will mostly depend how Sorana plays, like all matches she plays are on her racket.

There is a thread on GM asking why Lepchenko is in top 20. Simple as 1+1. She hasn't won a single match against top 10 in 2012, but she didn't lose to lower ranked player like Babos, Oudin, Watson, Espinosa, Karatantcheva or Tatishvili.

Good luck against Ayumi Sorana.

Hmm, I wouldn't say that all matches she plays are on her racquet. Many are. But what if she plays Serena? Or Kvitova?

I think that she can beat Morita but Kerber is a mighty tough challenge. Kerber is a master of retrieving, counterpunching and consistency. I think it's a tough ask for Sorana and most likely I see her burying herself in a mountain of errors.

Hope she plays well against Morita first though.

Probably the usual bashing And it's also indoors and it's not what she prepared for Morita easily taking the first set. Of course, it's natural to hope this was just a bad start.

Good thing about being a Sorana fan is that we are used with this kind of results and we don't need to get melodramatic.

this loss is just stupid really. she was sure typical sorana in that match. damn. and 0/3 on BPs in last set

She won three matches last week so we shouldn't have expected much. She could have match her career high ranking if she won this though.
