If this is true it's a very poor decision on the part of the WTA. A sport1 subscription costs 15 euro a month while Eurosport is available for free for almost every household overhere. Sport1 at the moment has one station dedicated to tennis, unless this changes, the ATP tournaments which take place in the same week will get preference.

Sport1 seals Dutch WTA rights
06 July 2012 | Posted in Broadcast, Tennis, Europe, Global | By James Emmett

Dutch broadcaster Sport1 has signed a four-year deal with the WTA Tour to cover top level women's tennis in the country.

The deal begins in January 2013, from which point 22 women's tournaments will be broadcast live on Sport1 and across its internet and mobile platforms.

The deal also includes rights to highlights packages and the WTA's weekly magazine programme.

Sport1 also has rights to ATP 1000, 500 and 250 events, meaning that both men's and women's tennis will be broadcast on the network from next year.

"We had the rights to the most important men's tennis tournaments but the ladies were missing in our programming," said Sport1 general manager Will Moerer. "I am pleased that we have succeeded in expanding our tennis programming for the coming years."

"Womens tennis in the Netherlands is clearly on the rise. Just think of the performance of Arantxa Rus and Kiki Bertens last week at Wimbledon. In principle, we start in 2013 but this year occasionally we will have a women's tournament broadcast like the season finale."

Interesting. Maybe this means that Sky Sports in the UK (who already have the rights to the ATP) will do something similar and take over the rights for WTA broadcasting.

Will it only be in Holland!? I really hope so cause in Asia, there's only Eurosport to braodcast WTA events (except ESPN/Starsport showing MM tournaments) If eurosport doesnt show, I wont be able to watch any WTA matches on TV at all...
