<font color=crimson><font size=5>2001 Swisscom Challenge<font=size><font=color><font color=black><font=color><font size=2><font=size>

The Elite Tennis Association makes a one week stop at Zurich, Switzerland for the Tier I Swisscom Challenge. The $1.23 million dollar event marks the last of the nine Tier Is for the 2001 season. Defending champion Martina Hinigs, will be seeded No. 2 in the event while No. 1 Tamarine Tanasugarn is also in the event. For many of the players competing in the Swisscom Challenge, this is a big opportunity to secure and jockey for position for the upcoming Sanex Championships in Munich, Germany.

Switzerland will look to root on home grown heros, Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder to the trophy. Martina Hingis comes to this tournament with a first round loss, while Patty Schnyder has struggled throughout the whole season except for a strong showing at the Bronx Challenger. Hingis won this event last year to capture her first home event title. Both Swiss tennis players will look to do well.

The tournament will take place at the Schluefweg Arena. It is a first-rate arena enhanced by a beautiful decor provides the perfect environment for spectacular tennis. All 6000 seats are comfortable and afford spectators with an excellent view of the court. Sponsor guests can follow the matches right next to the court and experience "total tennis".

<font size=5><font color=forestgreen>2001 Eurotel Slovak Indoor<font=color><font=size><font size=2><font=size><font color=black><font=color>

While the majority of players will travel to Zurich, Switzerland, a handfull of players will compete in the Tier V Eurotel Slovak Indoor in Bratislava, Slovakia. The $110,000 event features World No. 5 Mary Pierce and defending champion Daja Bedanova.

Most of the players here are not trying to gain points for the Sanex Championships but rather to gain some experience to play at a higher level. The winner of this event will earn a valuable WC into next week's Generali Ladie's Open in Linz, a Tier II event. There are no home grown heros, just rising tennis stars trying to prove that they have what it takes to become No. 1 someday!

All singles and doubles draws will be posted shortly after the points deadline. Because most players sent in points before they saw the draw, I don't want some players to get "an advantage of scouting."

We will return to the old format of draw and then points next week! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Well I think to finally dispute the whole draw and points thing. Later in the week I will post a thread where you will have to state your player name and vote for one or the other.

The problem with that poll is there can be double votes and such. Right? So I don't know if that accurately reflects the general opinion.

You can't <img src="tongue.gif" border="0"> ... Make a poll and try to double vote.. you'll see that it doesn't work.

another rising star out of asia to make her debut

first it was angie with the rogers AT + T cup, then it was tammy with the number one crown and then tammy and cris with team asia, then kimiko taking out singles and doubles in shanghai. It seems Asia is the dominating force in Tennis at this point in time!

But now a new addition to the Asian force - Su-Wei Hsieh, a virtual unknown to everyone outside Chinese Taipei, will make her debut in the slovak indoor tournament this week! This tiny little 15 year old posseses a lethal backhand and a consistent all round game that is sure to inflict much damage to her opponents!

Sport commentators in Chinese Taipei say this girl will soon be more of a force on the tour than her idol Tamarine Tanasugarn is today! Are they insane? we'll just have to wait and see but one thing is certain... This girl is definitely not to be taken lightly!

comments from su-wei on her goals:<br />"my goals!? well my goal is to win one tournament by the end of the year, hopefully make it to the second week of the australian open and maybe crack the top 5 at some stage next year. if i achieve all 3 goals i will be very proud of myself! I want to help make sure Asia continues to be the strongest tennis continent in the world. Thats my goals!!!"

good luck su-wei in bratislava! i know you can do it! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
