The Elite Tennis Association makes a one week stop at Zurich, Switzerland for the Tier I Swisscom Challenge. The $1.23 million dollar event marks the last of the nine Tier Is for the 2001 season. Defending champion Martina Hinigs, will be seeded No. 2 in the event while No. 1 Tamarine Tanasugarn is also in the event. For many of the players competing in the Swisscom Challenge, this is a big opportunity to secure and jockey for position for the upcoming Sanex Championships in Munich, Germany.

Switzerland will look to root on home grown heros, Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder to the trophy. Martina Hingis comes to this tournament with a first round loss, while Patty Schnyder has struggled throughout the whole season except for a strong showing at the Bronx Challenger. Hingis won this event last year to capture her first home event title. Both Swiss tennis players will look to do well.

The tournament will take place at the Schluefweg Arena. It is a first-rate arena enhanced by a beautiful decor provides the perfect environment for spectacular tennis. All 6000 seats are comfortable and afford spectators with an excellent view of the court. Sponsor guests can follow the matches right next to the court and experience "total tennis".
