So I am to understand that Rybarikova is first alternate. If there are no pull outs will she play qualifying? Just curious, not sure if a former Wimbledon semi-finalist would wait around to see if she gets direct entry, but I do know her ranking has taken a major nose dive so maybe this is better then playing ITF events. Just wondering.....

I cringe whenever these threads get bumped as it usually means the field is getting weaker and weaker. Still not as bad as last year when Nanchang was just after Wimbledon and Han was seeded at 126, and Cako got in directly at 273, but there's still plenty of time for further withdrawals.

When the entry list was closed (4 or 6 weekd before September 8th), Errani was ranked higher than Cristian . The qualis seeds are made based on the last ranking published before the tournament starts.

Crazy amount of withdrawals, and on paper, in terms of ranking alone, it's now not actually much stronger than last year when it was held the week after Wimbledon. Han was a seed then at 126, and Cako get in directly at somewhere between 265-275, but at least it's more of a diverse field here as last year 20 of the 32 main draw players were either Chinese (13) or Japanese (7), and it was effectively just a rankings boost for local players.
