Just thought I'd start this as suggested. (If anyone wants to start another with a better title, please do. Or, it may be possible to edit the Thread title.)
She'll be out for a "few months" which probably means she'll be back in training around August time. French and Wimbledon are definitely a no-go with the USO being "unlikely". I suspect she'll back on the court playing in September/October.
However, by then, she'll have lost any fitness gains she made last year and it'll take some time to get back up to speed, so I wouldn't expect much for the rest of 2023.
Given that the fitness gains involve lower body and core work, whether she loses these fitness gains will depend on how long the ankle takes to recover. We really have no idea what this ankle injury is and therefore have no idea what the recovery time on that is. The obvious first thought is that it relates to the incident in Auckland, but this is just speculation. I haven't seen any issues with her movement over the last few months so it could be that the ankle is just a minor annoyance and the surgery for it is quick to heal. I'm not sure if it is a good idea for Emma to return to competitive play until she has regained any strength that she lost as then she is just increasing her chance of further minor niggles like what she had repeatedly last year. 😐Then the order is a little off. I'd take care of the one that requires the longest recover time first.
I thought they looked like French plug sockets? Wouldn’t German sockets have two holes? @tennismomfan - we need your plug socket expertise!Has it been noticed yet that it seems Emma had her surgery in Germany? There’s what looks to be German text on the notice behind her. And obviously those are European plug sockets.
Yeah! Socket to me, @tennismomfan, socket to me! (Well, us...)I thought they looked like French plug sockets? Wouldn’t German sockets have two holes? @tennismomfan - we need your plug socket expertise!
The "two holes and a pin" outlet is Type E, which is used in France, Belgium, Czechia and various other countries, but not Germany.I thought they looked like French plug sockets? Wouldn’t German sockets have two holes?
Well this is what happens when your pet lion eats all of the wrist specialists in the UK... 🦁Has it been noticed yet that it seems Emma had her surgery in Germany? There’s what looks to be German text on the notice behind her. And obviously those are European plug sockets.
My guess is the UK one is using an adapter:there are two european plugs and 1 UK plug. So, there really is no telling what hospital it was lol
Perhaps but those stick out quite a lot, and it doesn't look like it's sticking out too muchMy guess is the UK one is using an adapter:

Probably to plug in some piece of equipment Emma has brought with her.
Very hard to say for sure from the angle in the picture. But wouldn't it be quite odd to have two French and one UK plug at the same hospital bed?Perhaps but those stick out quite a lot, and it doesn't look like it's sticking out too much
Hello Delurking they use UK plugs on the Channel Islands. 🙂Very hard to say for sure from the angle in the picture. But wouldn't it be quite odd to have two French and one UK plug at the same hospital bed?
... what plugs do they use on the Channel Islands?![]()
I don’t think Switzerland has the same plug sockets. Also I think that when you’re a top athlete having wrist surgery like this you don’t pick a country/healthcare system/hospital you pick the best surgeon (or one of the best) and go to wherever he or she works within reason of course.Maybe it's switzerland, isn't their healthcare one of the best?
My goodness you people have hawk eyes, but yes I think you're right. Otherwise Austria is possible but yeah it seems less likely. Switzerland does have different plug sockets.Has it been noticed yet that it seems Emma had her surgery in Germany? There’s what looks to be German text on the notice behind her. Im not sure she ever planned to play Madrid tbhI don’t think Switzerland has the same plug sockets. it’s amazing to think that a week ago she was still thinking about playing Madrid and now she’s already had surgery! She must have had it all lined up months ago - she was just waiting to pull the trigger. Must have been super stressful for her. I hope that Emma feels better now having made the decision. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

I think she made this decision in the last week - but yes given that she would want to research various surgeons etc, I'm sure this option has been on the table since after she got home from Miami and consulted with some wrist specialists. 😐I don’t think Switzerland has the same plug sockets.
