Okay bye Kiki, I'm sure she'd just literally shit her pants again at the thought of winning another major like she did at RG last year

Why are people mad at players for putting their health before money?

Tennis is NOT that important in the grand scheme of things. Besides, Kiki probably feels that her better chances are in Paris.

She said its because Quarantine rule.
Bit she could easily train somewhere else in Europe before Rome and Roland Garros.

It's pure bs. Bertens is either misinformed or coming up with a lame excuse. Yesterday there was a conference call between the USTA and the ATP/WTA during which the USTA confirmed that they are currently updating the list of players and staff members that will return to Europe after the US Open. The list was originally meant to exempt players from being quarantined in Spain. The USTA has now confirmed that it will no longer be in Spain but it will be in Italy instead, so players will be able to fly from New York to Rome without being quarantined.

Again, I don't understand how Bouchard can spend the last five months in the US only to fly to Prague on Monday or Tuesday and be out on the courts on Thursday if the USO players have to quarantine for 14 days?

Coud everyone else fly to Prague, show a negative covid-19 test and then roam free around Europe?

RIP, but not surprising news. Elina has USO SF points which are all locked up (plus not much to defend in the clay season), while Bertens is really good on clay and it would be wise for her to focus all her efforts there.

And of course, health comes first.

Netherlands: 14 days quarantine if flying from the US, regardless of you calling it bullshit..... Who says a player not going deep in the US open wants to spend the fortnight or more in Rome ?

Has the Italian and French governments approved this?

If you happen to be a pro-athlete, the answer is probably yes. I have a problem with this because it's another case of one rule for the elite and another rule for everyone else.

How essential is professional sport? There are people around the world who can't see the last days of family members with terminal illness, the birth of children and grand-children, are blocked from reunited with their spouses or soon-to-be-spouses. And people are pissed off that millionaire athletes don't want to leave their families or places where they have built their 'safe' routine?

New deaths from covid in NYC yesterday was --- 0
New deaths from covid have been about 5/day in NYC for about a week, and that includes all the elderly and sick people in NYC.
About 95% of the deaths from covid are the sick and elderly.
Most healthy people are only slightly effected, as a desk worker that is down 10 to 20% in energy means very little. A pro tennis player whose energy level is down 20% is useless on the court.
Sometimes the decrease in energy can last for a month, which would very bad for a pro tennis player.

what an idiotic decision to not count the results, and giving players like Svito and Barty a huge incentive not to show up. It's basically a 2-year ranking calendar, what's the point of not counting events twice if they are played twice.

What problems to spend them at home in Netherlands?

A part this, Bertens statement is appreciable for it's sincerity: having to make a choice she prefer to play in Rome and Paris, just like Nadal, instead of W&S and USO.

OK, respectable personal decision.

Let's proceed.

She wouldn’t be able to practise at clay

I have no problem with this. Every player has the right to take a vacation now and watch if the USTA can have 2 good tournaments and the players are happy
This is about getting the tour restarted and paying players outside the top 50.
So every millionaire who takes a break now opens a spot in the draw. The important thing is that the major is there and the top 130 or so who want to play get a chance at doing well in it

I highly doubt that any top player who is not already signed up to play Cincinnati or is not currently in the United States will fly to New York.

Halep, Andreescu, and Kerber will likely be the next dominoes to fall.

The US is a mess, so that’s why the Dutch government requires a quarantine of 14 days.
