Eastbourne QF: Rybakina def. (LL) Sevastova 2-6 7-6(7) 7-6(5)
really needed win for Lena
Lena saved double MP in the 2nd set tiebreaker 4-6
hope such a win helps her confidence

but Lena's performance was totally messy, especially her service was nowhere
so low in the 1st and 2nd set, became better slightly in the 3rd

All 4 QF matches in Eastbourne went to the 3rd set,
and 3 of them have very similar pattern
In the 1st set, more crafty and faster player (Golubic, Kasatkina, Sevastova) made her opponent commit many errors and won the set
But in the 2nd and 3rd, more hard-hitting and powerful one (Kontaveit, Ostapenko, Rybakina) gradually adjusted and turn the match

That's what you call winning ugly though some better moments in the third.

Another tough one tomorrow in what I suspect Alona would refer to as shitty weather......

Eastbourne SF: Rybakina lt. Ostapenko 4-6 1-6
weak and disappointing performance from Rybakina, even considering she took MTO and took massage in later change ends.
Ostapenko controlled most points, hit more than 3 times winner than Rybakina, very rarely see such a match.
But this match included many close games.
Indeed Ostapenko committed more errors but hit few ones on important points (GP, BP etc.). vice versa for Rybakina.
That difference is so huge.
If Rybakina had won one of so many lost game points, this match would not have been such one sided score even if she lost.

I hoped Rybakina got some confidence from previous matches, but it's not true at least judging from this match.

appreciate she won matches in spite of being far from her best performance (except 2R match).
But, first of all, she must fix her services in Wimbledon, or will exit early.

Ostapenko was unplayable on that day. She made Rybie's shots looked like puff balls. Combined with her long match that ended late and not being 100% physically, she was never going to win. I do agree that she has to fix her serve, especially her 1st serve %.

WImbledon 3R: (18) Rybakina def. Rogers 6-1 6-4

quick work, energy saving win for Lena
I expected more tough match

Rogers looked like sleeping in the first 5 games
then she made this match competitive
but Lena's was so solid, especially her service was clicking

next Sabalenka
I think Aryna is too much but this is mouthwatering match up

NID.

I feel that Lena is weak and one-dimensional every time she plays against Aryna
Rarely feel like this against other opponents

same story in every 3 encounter
In the 2nd set, Aryna loses concentration at some point, when Lena takes advantage of that and wins a set
but basically Aryna is superior in match closing phase
In last three games of this match, Sabalenka was so concentrated and powerful
No way Rybakina can stay in

Bit disappointed how she ended that match. Sabalenka upped her game for sure but Lena couldn't find her serve when she needed it the most.

Feel like Lena has a mental block vs Aryna. Anyways, all in all can't really complain given how she started her season. Two good results in last two majors...
