Re: The Elena Dementieva ONLY Fan Club vol.7

did you guys know Elena is the 1998 Youth Olympics champion???

I just came across this article about the Youth Olympic games and it speaks about the tasks of the new athletes comparing the results of the former YOG Russian participants that became stars, it mentions Elena.
I will copy the Elena parts

Some members of the Moscow Games, 98 were able to realize themselves in the big sports. Only from the Russian athletes the Olympic champions were: Anastasia Ermakova and Anastasia Davydova (four golds in synchronized swimming), Maria Gromova (two gold in synchronized swimming), Elena Zamolodchikova (two golds in gymnastics), Yelena Isinbayeva (two gold pole vault), Artur Taymazov (two gold in freestyle wrestling - though the flag of Uzbekistan), Yuriy Borzakovskiy (gold in the race for 800 meters), Alina Kabaeva :)ras: undeserved gold in rhythmic gymnastics), Elena Dementieva (gold in tennis), Anna Sivkova ( gold in fencing). In the future, the current stars of Singapore 2010 will have to try to surpass the achievement of the heroes of Moscow-98.

Girls. Singles. Quarter-finals. Elena Dementieva (Russia) - Natalie Jane Grandin (RSA) - 4:6, 6:3, 7:5. Elena Daniilidou (Greece) - Herod Tulyaganova (Uzbekistan) - 6:3, 2:6, 6:3. Claudine Shaul (Luxembourg) - Elena Yarishko (Belorussia) - 6:3, 7:5. Margarita Chahnashvili (Georgia) - Charles Tien (Brazil) - 6:3, 2:6, 6:0. Semifinal. Dementieva (Russia) - Daniilidu (Greece) - 5:7, 6:3, 6:3. Chahnashvili (Georgia) - Shaul (Luxembourg) - 6:4, 7:6 (7:4). Final. Dementieva - Chahnashvili - 6:3, 6:1. Girls doubles. Semifinal. Lena played well. But she was up a break in the 3rd 2 different times.
3-0, and 5-3. You have to be able to serve out a match.

She could have gotten to 4-0, she was sloppy after the 3-0 changeover.
Then 5-3, thats the story of her slam career

Yep. My son even said at 3-0 "I guess she's got it." And I said "No, she needs to step on in her or Sam can get back in it."

And she didn't.

But I still feel the biggest issue is her confidence. Her body language was very negative, even when she was up. I don't think deep down inside she thinks she's ready to play the best player's yet.

Hopefully she'll regain a little more. Again, of course I wanted her to do better, but given her form coming in and her lack of play this summer, I was afraid she wouldn't live up to her seed. So it's a bit of a split decision. I think overall she had a decent tournament, but it's the way she lost that is painful.

Hopefully she gained some confidence and will close out the year strong. Maybe 2011 will be her year.

It wasn't a high quality match at all

Ah well, at least Elena showed us she still has the fighting spirit in her. She may have choked it away, but I'm glad she put up a good fight.

Me, too.

It takes a big pair to be a Lena fan.

But as I've said before, it's better to lose with Lena than win with anybody else. Our girl will be back.

And not to be sour grapes, but I really feel that either way, last night's match was a case of "win a battle, lose a war." A tough three setter than ends at 2 in the morning to face a well-rested Kim?

Sam might actually have a slightly better chance because Kim is in Lena's head already, but you really have to feel this is a great opportunity for Kim to advance.

Samuel (This bloody predictive text!!) will lose to Kimberley badly.

Well if anyone misses Sin (It is kinda quiet around here) hes taken up residence in her official forum and started in a typically doom laden way.

Lets look at it this way, I personally expected Lena to be long gone by this point at the USO, but she did at least make the last 16 and thank god she didnt lose to Dani, now that would have been very embarassing.

I not sure whats worse, getting trumped 1 and 0 or 'Winning' the match but still losing...I guess at least shows Lenas got the game if not the brain for it.

The USO sucks anyways, its gotten worse and worse, shit lines calling etc, ridiculous scheduling putting matches on after 11pm and THE most biased court scheduling you will ever see, over commercialism, stupid music, fights in stands and a stadium fit for only razing to the ground.

I have to say most of the things we do in the UK are crap, the US does it much better, but not tennis, Wimbledon blows the USO out of the water in every single way, much more attractive stadium, NO advertising and commercialism, proper scheduling, Lena been given the attention she deserves (at last, OG helped there) and even better weather since the roof was put on  only the commentators ruin it, but they have mostly been imported from the US anyways, the whining shrew etc only Wade is local and yes I agree with Fred, shes annoying too.

But heres the reason why it rocks better than all the others, only the FO comes close and thats because we get to see Lena in white..... except this year of course sadly.

Stick your USO down the flushing toilets where it deserves, New York can do much better than that..

I dont know why this loss is hurting so much.....at least she lost to the 5th seed and not to the likes of an oudin.....I dont have any other favorite tennis player but Lena. I have tried to get into others, but I just really cant. No one can ever replace her....Love watching her play.....

Most of the Russians really need a psychologist, especially the one with a degree in psychology.

I just got done watching the match without knowing who won and at 5-3 in the third and all those match points I thought Elena had it won. Stosur played great on Elena's match points and also in the tiebreaker. Elena usually wins third set tiebreakers but Stosur's all around game was slightly better than Elena's, especially the serve and volley. :(
I thought Elena played a terrific match but it came down to the same old problem, she just can't close a match on her serve, especially against the top players.
I just hope Stosur beats Clijsters. Of all the players left I'll root for anyone other than Sharapova, Clijsters and Williams. I can't stand any of those three!

Re: The Elena Dementieva ONLY Fan Club vol.7

Well, a disappointing end to what was shaping up to be a great fortnight for Lena but there are some positives to take not only from this loss but from her somewhat resurgence in form these past weeks. One being that she is now beating the girls that she should be beating with her eyes closed, perhaps not as easily as she should but at the end of the day, a win is what is most important. Much of the clay season was spent losing to the likes of Pironkova, a mid-slump Ivanovic and future Warsaw GOAT Dulgheru, all of which should've be routine wins.

Perhaps closing out the Wozniacki epic would've given her some confidence to do the same on this occasion but it wasn't to be. The problem wasn't so much her serve but the fact that she wasn't really willing to commit herself when she was ahead (sure sign of her lack of big wins this year). I will take this loss like most of you, disappointed but perhaps almost expected. However a R16 showing with a loss to Stosur in a hotly contested match is a major improvement to her dismal showing in R2 against Oudin in spite of her pre-tournament form in 2009. It can only be onwards and upwards from here and hopefully Lena will use the loss to spur her onto better things.
