Ostapenko was down 2-4 in both sets but won 6-4 6-4. Great that she won after that thriller in Birmingham

Much needed win for Aljona after the choking in Birmingham to give her some confidence to Wimbledon. As Gavrilova would say, she's good from behind.

As for Buzarnescu, it serves her well after that disrespectful attitude.

Good job, Aljona!!!

Buz continuing the fall.... after Wimby, Bucharest, and San Jose come off, she will be wayyyy out of Top 100. Those 3 events are 700 of her 1100 pts

I don't know how she won the 1st set, she escaped 2 service games when she was down 15-40 and 0-40.

The injury really, really derailed Buzarnescu's upswing :(

I am happy that Ostapenko could escape from tough service games - playing doubles on on the day after probably helped get over the loss to Martic.

I can’t decide if the match against Sloane will be a thriller or an error-filled mess.
Osta will win in straights, IMO - much like the Vekic match against Vekic at Wimbledon last year except a bit closer because of Osta’s serve.

But at least Sloane will get “some” grass court matches pre-Wimbledon, unlike last year.

I think she’ll win in straights as well. Sloane used to be really good on grass, but her serve had more pop and she was fitter.

Although, 2016 and 2017 - she was injured or just coming back from injury. 2018 - she arrived on grass the Friday prior to Wimbledon <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Laugh Out Loud" class="inlineimg" />

I don't think she's bad on grass either - yes her FH swing is probably a bit too wide for low-bouncing, skid-ey surfaces, but she used to move very well on grass a coupe of years ago, had a decent chipped ROS that could start return games off in neutral, and like you said, she used to serve more aggressively too which helped her control service games.

I still think she could have a good run at Wimbledon if she works her way into the draw, but I don't expect much from this match unless Osta plays like shite.

Yeah, her FH is so versatile, though. I think I remember her shortening the swing and flattening her shots out when she was going far in grass events a few years back.

I’ll be interested to see what game plan she goes for tomorrow since any passivity will get her destroyed

I feel like Ostabuz happens more times than it should (kind of like Kerber/Muchova).
I saw part of this match when Dr. Buz was up in the second and I turned around and it was over.
Ostapenko is definitely having a better time on grass after having a pretty bad year.
