Most probably there already are some threads about this issue around on TF but I actually couldn`t find them.

However, nowadays doping seems to belongs to sport in generell.

A few weeks ago the question about doping in tennis came up in a thread on the non-tennis section.
You rarely can hear something about it, so I decided to google for it and found this site in the first place.

http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.de/

I posted the link in the above mentioned thread. Interestingly nobody reacted to the link.
So I don`t know whether it`s already old hat, simply uncomfortable to look at, or something else.
It looks as if the site is pretty serious and I was surprised which and how many names are mentioned there.

So, what do you think ?

I don't have anything against mutants, but I think there should be separate tour for them. And also a separate tour for robots.

1. It's a general problem in sport, the more so much money is involved ;)
2. Progress in new kind of doping is/was and will always be ahead of doping check systems that are besides totally different in consistency in different parts of the world.

3. On the basis of the sad facts of 1.+2., I gave up my enthusiasm for some sports like running (athletics) or bicycle racing (TdF) and others where doping is most effective.

4. Tennis is a sport where you'll have a good chance to be successfull without doping (hope so:p), technique and the feel for the ball e.g. are a question of talent > for that I accept point 1+2 and continue watching tennis with passion, wondering about some very immedate increased performances (w call any name...;)) or watching mutated bodies ( particularly visible in womens/girls faces ;))

Nobody can stop the evil in the world and sports is a part of the world, so there's good and bad in everywhere and there's cheating as well in everywhere, unfortunetely!

I remeber Serena and the panic room

didn't know the intruder was from doping control

I think everyone should be checked at grandslams and definately the players that reach QF and further to make sure their achievement is fair.

it's a taboo topic in tennis it seems... there are some male and female players who buffed up a lot with muscles and they look suspicious... also maybe some chemicals that help with stamina and running could probably be useful for tennis players.

However, since tennis is a skilled based sport, i believe doping is less relevant than purely athletic based sports suchs as running or cycling.

Doping is in tennis only effective to increase the fitness level. But we see that you can be fat( or at least not in perfect shape) and still be succesful in women`s tennis so I don`t think women`s tennis is really affected by doping.

Sometimes I get suspicious when I see that Serena's and Venus's heads are twice the size of Mario Lopez's who is 1) a man and 2) allegedly 5'11" --enlargement of the head being a sign of human growth hormone. In addition, things such as Henin's perennial herpes and decision to 'retire' (and come back about 18 mos. later...) in her peak, Safina's incredible build and anger problems, and Sharapova's mustache, are all suspicious. But then, all of those things that are suspicious and indicative of PED use sometimes do occur naturally. (PS, big fan of Sharapova and Venus so not implying that any of these players are actually doping).

I however don't think that the benefits of doping are as nullified in tennis as some would suggest. Stimulants allow you to respond more quickly to things, key in a game where just a few steps or adjustments in position can make a huge difference. Also, working less to increase your fitness more is in no way a negligible advantage.

Acne among 20 something yo girls is always suspicious.
Hardly! People can suffer from acne long into their adulthood.

In fact it's more likely to stay longer in sports stars as anti-doping regulation prevents them taking many of the drugs normally used to treat it! ;)

In other sports the "benefits" of doping are very clear, you can run faster and swim faster. In tennis is a very different story, of course you can be stronger, and faster, but doping doesn't make you more stronger mentally and don't increase your skills.
In a very tight sport every little difference matters, but doping don't make a champion of an average player.

And doping laws have to be more clear, and make differences. It's not the same take a forbiden substance for consuming a medicine, than taking epo for increasing your probabilities to win. And of course, it's not the same substance that benefit your game, than drugs that maybe are forbiden but that don't help you in your achivements

The board discourages discussions about doping, and threads on the topic will normally be closed or deleated. I have already stated on a number of occasions that I believe that the problem is very endemic and that some of the top WTA players, including the Williams sisters, Henin, Jankovic, Safina and Sharapova all use or have used banned performance enhancing substances including steroids, blood boosters, and human growth hormone.

when you have a calendar from january to november with tournaments, and the pay and competition is so cut-throat, you're going to have doping.

I do believe in some players being protected by the tour if they had doped in the past, but I am also surprised that there aren't more lower ranked players being caught.

You can believe it if you want to, but the Williams have never used, nor ever will use doping in this lifetime.

For one thing, the whole tennis establishment would leak anything remotely dope related about them...there would be no cover-up, plea deal, or temporary ban, trust me. Others would move heaven and earth to pin doping on them because some already feel they have unfair advantages...even their pusher man would rat them out.

I think it would be the other way around. Not in the case of the WS specifically, but if any of the top players were found to have doped it would ruin the sport's reputation completely. I wouldn't be surprised if they covered it up.
