very much the composed and steadier player. Putintseva did have some good moments here and there but didn't put them together to make them count

Yulia's out of form and playing a higher ranked player on the rise who's already had the experience of coming through qualies, so this was never in doubt.

Solid win, building confidence again after injuries and playing so little in 2017 second half. Serve still a mess with low 1st % and too many double faults, but pretty efficient off the ground and clutch at saving bps.
Some of Putintseva's misses with court wide open were so comical, esp. those two in the 6-3 3-1 game :lol:
