She's not banned - still under investigation

She was only provisionally "removed" from Fed cup by agreement between her and FFT (French tennis feds)

Cornet still has a way against certain players. Not a good match for Anett!

Good to see Alizé not getting down about the current investigation, and is still putting in workmanlike performances on court.

That said, she wasn't special today. Hit some nice winners and played with confidence but was clearly helped by Anett spraying every ball all over the place. Anett had 0 aces and 5 double faults, a horrible second serve win % and looked a bit fed up at times, the wind can't have helped. Cornet can be a nightmare opponent if you're having an off day.

Kontaveit showed better form in Aus and Fed Cup, hopefully she doesn't think too much about this loss because her playing well is good for the tour.

Was always going to be very very tough for Kontaveit to come from -15 in Tallinn to 30 in Doha with only one day's preparation. Given these circumstances the loss isn't that surprising to me, although the scoreline is really disappointing. She will do a lot better in Dubai, I mean she lost to #366 Aoyama in Sydney the week before being 3 points from a Slam QF :hysteric:

Cornet is Cornet. Messes around a lot, gets balls back, plays kind of junky but always has great intensity and is a strong competitor. Kontaveit was nowhere near good enough to match her today.

what a career :worship:
She almost double-breadsticked a WTA hotshot who is a nextgen/rising star/upcomer/whatever

That has always been Cornet's bread-and-butter, her silverware.

She will always have this:

Players who have beaten Serena Williams three or more times in a single year

(1) Arantxa Sanchez Vicario 1998
(2) Jennifer Capriati 2001
(3) Justine Henin 2007
(4) Alizé Cornet 2014

Plus, she gets bonus points for being a wacky, drama queen :worship:
