Don't get me wrong, I was praying for her BreakThrough!! However, I felt robbed and felt she was robbed. I havent gotten over it yet. And I am not here to Bash Justine, nor want anyone else to.

The real question on the table is...Did it really feel like a SLAM WIN?

3 of her opponents quit on her.

2 of her opponents quit on her in the most intense rounds of play.

Kim in the Semi's
Justine in the Final's

I was all geared to celebrate with Amelie. I felt the same way i did when Jen Cap was gunning for her first grand slam. Let's hope she will REALLY get a chance to celebrate in Paris.

Speaking about playing Hurt in GrandSlam play:
The 2003 Wimbledon Semi's Venus was REALLY Hurting, we could see it, we could tell...but she knew where she was...WIMBLEDON. Kim was playing well, and Venus was too inspite of....she fought through it. She did the same in the final with Baby Sis, just couldn't cease the moment under the strain of being hurt.

In GS Play, you win it or lose it, you never quit. (Unless it was something really Damaging.)

I want Amelie to get her just reward.

If Momo has turned the corner on her mental block then she should have the opportunity to win more, because her game is good enough. While I too don't think much of this particular win right this minute, she was playing as well as anyone headed into the semi's (not unusual for her) and was good enough to be there at the end when fortune smiled at her. In the end, it doesn't matter how, but how many. A win is a win.

I like to look at it as fate there was something different about this time she looked hungry like she said she would have been willing to die, I think after the YEC she really believed in herself.
It was just a pity about the final and Kim but at the end of the day she was the last woman left standing and although she had a slight lead over Kim she was leading in all her matches it is not if she was set and break down.

Yes. In 20 years (apart from a few hardcore fans) not many people will remember the circumstances that brought her the Aust Open '06. Her name is on that trophy forever more!

I have to say for me, it doesn't. I feel for Amelie. She is obviously delighted to have a GS, but I think she'll be so eager to win another one, just to have that "winning feeling".

Of course it's a real win. It's a matter of survival of the fittest, and on this occasion that happened to be Amelie. I never like "the easy draw" or "the opponent was injured" as an argument to belittle the achievement of a player who has won a major. Amelie was the best player in the tournament because no one was able to beat her, it's as simple as that.

Well it wasn’t a genuine slam victory now, was it?

Justine had the shits. Kim had two broken legs. Martina Hingis wasn’t match fit. Elena Dementieva didn’t like playing in the morning. Mary Pierce was pregnant. etc etc

I am delighted that Amelie won, I can't imagine a more gracious or deserving champion. As for any feelings she may have of being robbed of the moment, I think a million dollars would ease some of the sting if it were me.

If I were Amelie,I wouldn't give a shit if I won under the circumstances that she did. She went out there to win,and she did. She deserved it 100%

Few posters on this board look at things so objectively and so accurate as you do. It´s so good to read from you!

If we took out the GS with unequal draws, one sided preordained finals and physical and mental collapses the list of GS won would be very short.
