I seriously doubt those tournments will go on as planned (many things corncerning player secuirty will need to be handled). If the WTA does cancel the events, does the WTA have to create new ones to take the place of these? The reason I say this, is because the winners of these events will be at a major disadvantage because of the lost points. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

The countries where these events are held aren't backward-looking. They're more open ones. Of course there are extremists there... but they were there while the last one was going on too. The WTA can't just start cancelling all tournaments in Muslim countries... that's unfair to them.

Do you really think that being at Olympics at SLC at the same very time will be any safer?
You know, at least in Arab countries people can't carry weapons. Those countries ARE dictatorships, and dictatorships are good in providing security. It is much more difficult in "democratic" world. Fortunately, it is still 4 monthes, things can cool down by then. The only event in the next year we can be absolutely sure of is perhaps AO.

I don't think they will cancell Dubai and Doha. Unless the government gives an official travel ban to these countries in particular. Nowadays, a lot of countries/cities are unsafe. They might as well ban London (Wimbledon) or Madrid (Year-End championships) too.

Depends on where we are with the Iranian nuclear bomb - one view says we have till 2009 - another says Iran actually has more than one enrichment plant and lots more centrifuges than it claims which means we have till early 2007. As no one in the region, the US or Europe will allow Iran to have the bomb, at some point travel to the region may not be very practicable.....though lack of 2 tennis tournaments might not feature highly on the list of problems........
