I know that Emmanuelle Gagliardi and Justin Gimelstob both come from HUGE money. But i think quite a few other players from the US and Western Europe are the children of ordinary-type millionaire parents, because you almost cannot afford to raise a tennis star in a Western country without that kind of money. It's very expensive for many years before there is any return on the investment.

I'm not sure about their parents being millionares more like middle class and comfortable, If they have enough talent their federation will fund them.

Most tennis players that come from rich familys don't do that well on tour, because they don't know how it is to fight, because everything is given to them ie. Andy Roddick and crew.

Kim was certainly from money, but she's been well brought-up -- you can tell. She has been taught values, and not just prices.

Yeah, Andy Roddick does come across a little bit spoilt in his interviews, doesn't he. Moan, moan, moan. Unlike British people, it's more difficult to tell an affluent American by their accent. Or maybe I'm just British and I wouldn't know. But I would say that in the case of Americans, the middle classes are more articulate as a generalisation, because they've been socialised to focus on education. Andy Roddick is very articulate.

Tim Henman is from money -- that's clear by his accent, his manners, his style, etc, but now I'm used to him I don't begrudge him that. He never apologises for it, and nor should he.

Chanda Rubin -- I always got the impression she was from a middle-class African American family. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Surina de Beer comes from the de Beer diamond family, right?
De Beers was founded by Cecil Rhoads. The name came from the farm where diamonds were originally discovered. The de Beer family didn't really make any money. She may be from that family.

How so?

I always imagined her so quiet, shy and nice :tape:
It's her aura, really :p She gives off these "Don't talk to me, don't approach me, I am so much better than you" vibes :tape: It's also in her eyes, in my opinion.
