I have a question. In an intervieuw during Wimbledon Richard says that:
"Nobody can touch Venus when she decides to play, not even Serena, ... but she has to decide to play..."

Altough I like Venus a lot (more than Serena in fact) I find it quite strange to say that not even Serena can touch Venus (when she decides to play), seen that she lost 5 slamfinals against Serena!

If you ask me (and this is my personnal opinion I'm not claiming this is the 'one and only')

Serve: SERENA
Altough Venus hits it harder, Serena has better placement, can hit with more 'effect' on it (one of the few women wo can hit a kick-serve) and has a more consistent 2nd serve

Backhand: SERENA
Both smack it down the line like no one else... but Serena can draw those short-angels wich are soo effective (I havn't often seen Venus hitting them)

Forehand: SERENA
Both are really good, buth Venus's tends to 'crumble' every now and then

Net: VENUS
Venus has great net-instincts, a lot of reach and fine volleys (placement and power) whereas Serena tends to miss some (forehand)volleys

Courtcouverage: VENUS/SERENA
Both are quick, Serena maybe even more than Venus, but Venus has the reach

Power (on groundstrokes): VENUS/SERENA
Both are extremely powerfull from the back of the court


==> So, I was wondering: Why does Richard says noone can touch Venus? Does he wants to challenge her, does he mean she has to train more - 'when she decides to play' - (when she's injuryfree of course)
Does he mean what he says... is Venus the better player?

I assume he knows both of them best... but what do you think:

Well the tennis world didn't believe his daughters would be grandslam champions but they are. The tennnis world didn't believe they would be one and two in the world, but they were. The tennis world didn't believe serena would be better, but she is. And now some fans don't want to believe that venus will be better when she focuses on her tennis more, well she will be. They both have the same amount of weapons and talent,
difference being that Serena has better technique, meaning
things are less likely to go astray if she's a little off her game.

Venus is tough mentally and one of the best, if not the best,
except for when she plays Serena! Anyone can see that Venus is quite never the Venus against Serena that she is when she dismantles all others. Commentators have commented on how Venus prior to the AO this year and after the USO of 01' that Venus would be there for the first set and just leave the court in the second.

Venus' attack mentallity of the early days isn't their against Serena.
Which before this year has been painfully evident. She struggles internally where Serena doesn't.

As I said before Richard said Serena would be the better player because she was meaner. And that if Venus could find away to turn off the maturnal insticts on the court against Serena, their matches would be better. Serena is most always in attack mode despite who she's playing and Richard believe if Venus could do that she could beat Serena and their matches these past two years wouldn't have been so one-sided.

Richard knows his girls more than anyone of us could.
Serena is the better player as of know but Venus could change that if she really wanted to. It's up to Venus.

If you'd watch "Raising Tennis Ace's" you'd understand things maybe a little better and see where Venus and Richard are coming from.

if Venus decides to play? so does that mean she hasnt decided to play in the past 6 matches vs Serena? thats not only an insult to Venus, but an insult to Serena too. so her domination is only because big sis isnt trying

Richard picks the daughter who isn't doing as well and makes these kind of statements to the media so they can repeat it back to Venus and Serena, and then V or S feel special and take Richard's words to heart. Richard is a genius if we hadn't noticed by now. I think he is right on this one, not really saying Venus is a better player, but when she is determined, I think she really intimidates Serena. She can get in babygirl's head faster than anyone else. Neither have played their best tennis yet. Soon they will start attacking the net more and it will be over for everyone.

Frankly, if Venus played Serena the way she plays everyone else on the WTA Tour, I wouldn't be surprised if Serena only had 2 or 3 Slams, and Venus had 7 or 8 Perhaps THAT'S what Richard was saying

I don't believe a word of it. It's not hard at all. I'll bet that in just about every other situation in life you would argue that you should not hold A responsible for what B says. But in this case you find it hard? Please.
