It seems that today European girls could only win...when facing other European girls!

Lisicki (Ger) lost Mattek-Sands (USA)
Cornet (Fr) lost Zheng (Chi)
Cirstea (Rom) lost Li (Chi)
Makarova (Rus) lost Stephens (USA)
Pous-Tio (Sp) lost Scheepers (SA)
Bertens (Neth) lost McHale (USA) :(
Barthel (Ger) lost Davis (USA) :help::tape::eek:
Bondarenko (Ukr) lost Chan (Tpe)
Voskoboeva (ex-Russian) lost King (USA):(
Pervak (ex-Russian) lost Lepchenko (USA) :(

Only the defeats of Bertens and Cirstea can be described as expected of this group.

On the plus side
Pennetta beat Hsieh :hearts:
Suarez Navarro beat Tanasugarn

Has the European economic gloom started to affect the minds of their tennis girls? :help:

Pous Tio would only win against Scheepers on a super slow clay court.
Barthel and Lisicki were unbelievable bad (but both aren't clay specialists...)
Voskoboeva and Pervak are typical hardcourt players. Bondarenko as well.
Zheng is just the better player of those two.

The surprise was more how good the US-Girls played on clay.
