Considering how shady her entire career was with frauding people out of money, allegations of fake Covid tests etc, this is hardly surprising 😒

I can't access the Corriere article, but I did read Gazzetta's one on the subject. Summarizing:
  • As she didn't even post stuff on Instagram in the last few days, her whereabouts were unknown until she appeared in the retired players list.
  • She's thought to be in the US as she has claimed Miami is her favorite city and that was the last place she posted from.
  • All members of the Giorgi family (including mother and brothers) have irregularities in their tax declaration and are searched by the authorities.
  • She still has to appear on court on July for the fake Covid passports case.
  • She changed her phone number recently and the "new" one seems inactive as well, same with all her family members (one of her brothers was in charge of Giorgi's PR).
  • Garbin hasn't talked to her in months, last thing she told her was that she was dealing with a foot injury.

According to Argentine journalists in contact with her father: Sergio (how come someone got a reply from him when Italian press can't?) claims that there's nothing weird around the retirement and that Camila is traveling and enjoying her post-retirement time.

She trained in Buenos Aires before going to Australia and seemed fed up with tennis. Went to Australia with an Argentine coach who eventually did not get paid.

Who do they think they are, the Trump family?

Funny how her one fan on here was blindly sticking up for her in her “retirement” thread just the other day, even though everything we learn about her and her family is just further proof that they are scummy (and not very smart) people. Good riddance, the sport doesn’t need her.

Scamila escaped to the USA apparently — it turns out both she and her family either never submitted any tax returns or never did it properly. And she's an officially wanted person on the run. That's no different from a fugitive in my book. And she's evading not just regular (local) tax authorities but the feds (the armed and police-powered "Guardia di Finanza" who typically pursue the Mafia.

Some escape, Italy and the US have an extradition treaty.

She's a legend. An icon. She's a moment. One the most interesting player in last 20 years.
