Frankly, not that big of a surprise, Coco falling back down to earth. But it's a good result for a 15 year old, and maybe now the unnecessary hype will die down a little.

Not a good mental match from Gauff

Gauff looked awful late in set 2. That first run at Wimbledon was no pressure and you could see the difference when she is expected to win. This was a low level match, especially the last few games

Not to say that Zarina is about to make a run for the title or anything, but I thought she played a very solid match. Not a terrible loss for Coco as Zarina is a top 100 player (as high 31 at one point a few years ago) and if she is on her game she can be a tough out, especially for an inexperienced 15 year old.

Well Coco just could not hit through Zarina, a full grown woman, and mentally self-destructed a bit at the end

Good to win 2 qualie matches tho. Don't think she will play Canada or Cincy, though maybe a Bronx 250 International Qualies appearance is in order before the USO MDWC

Growing pains, at this age losses are probably just as important, if not more so than wins. She did well to qualify here, and Diyas is no joke so the loss is understandable. For her now it's very important how she's going to treat this loss, the lessons she's willing to learn from it, because frankly I've seen so many talented young players who were not willing to learn from losses, just completely vanish time and time again. I don't think that's her, but she's also still only 15 so who really knows at this stage.

This is why playing qualies is what Gauff should be doing... still a good tournament for her and she played some brilliant points in the first set. The talent is real. But most top 100 players in solid form, like Diyas, can also play brilliant points and can use their edge in experience.

This way she gets to leave with a couple of Ws under her belt rather than just one and done.

It seems like she struggles more against players with good defensive skills (like Halep, Diyas, Karatantcheva, etc.)
So actually she struggles against players who can play tennis and knows how to keep ball in play? Fascinating.

Nice win for Zarina, a Kazakh player actually born in Kazakhstan!

Off topic but interesting bio; according to wta.com Zarina is based mainly in Guangzhou and she grew up in Czech Republic aged 5-12.

As for Coco, she did well to qualify, still such early days.
