It also isn't that easy either. There's some serious talent there.

I think this is Dani's last chance this year. Without a good showing (QF or better) at the USO, she's going to be written off by a lot of people who once considered her a contender to the sisters Williams.

With many people considering the USO the last fling of the tennis year, and everything else after it a slide towards the end of the season, she has got to do something to bolster herself, lest she find herself considered an also-ran. Look at poor Jelena: She's almost a laughingstock because of her game, and she hasn't any of the controversy surrounding her (this year.)

I think Dani should aim to go out of the year with a bang! Hopefully she'll get into the quater finals at least, and i'd be happy for her if she does (i'd be :bounce: if she got further). But after the USO, maybe she should call it quits for the year, go on holiday and, to use a kim phrase, 're-charge the batteries'. She needs time out of the glare of the media to get her head and game back to the level of last year. I think we can honstly say she hasn't played her best tennis this year, and that the opposition has stepped up their game. Take two months off then come back better than ever at the Australian Open!

Quit for the rest of the year? After US Open? There's a lots of points to be defended after, for example finals in Filderstadt??? I don't think that would be best idea.

her ranking should be the last thing she should be thinking about right now.

Hm, mabye you're right after all, losing like today is just as bad as quitting from the tournament

Well said chap!!
Also, even though Dani beat Bartoli quite easily at Wimbledon this year, Bartoli can still be a very dangerous player. BTW what's up with all these same first round matchups at the USO and Wimbledon!
Example: Dani vs. Bartoli, Myskina vs. Nagyova

I agree with Joe.

The general public who have a knowledge of tennis that is reasonable but limited will only pay attention to the Majors.
The last result most people will be aware of is the Wimbledon defeat to the Japanese girl but constant under-achievement in Majors will tarnish her reputation more than a collection of these smaller WTA tournament defeats will.

thats my point! thanx chaps! To hell with the points, to hell with the rankings, she needs to get her game back and playing every tourniment just ain't the solution by her present form.

No draw is easy these days... she needs to re-gain her confidence. Go Dani! Ranking isn't that important... winning matches + tournaments are key.

She should have stopped playing right after Wimbledon! But since she didn't, her confidence probably has hit a new low, after losing so many matches in smaller tournaments. So I won't expect a very good showing from her, because if I do, then my heart will probably be broken again. So if she has a good showing(fourth round or better) then it will be a surprise. The draw is tough in my opinion, but any draw looks tough these days.

And Bartoli has improved a great deal since then, while DH's game has regressed immensely.

At this point, it's "a match at a time." She'll have a great deal of difficulty matching last year's result, given that last year she upset a higher-ranked player to reach the QF; she'd probably lose points this year even ** she reached the QF again unless she beats another higher-ranked player.

The #9 seed was a bad thing this year; assuming she gets through a couple of rounds, she's seeded to meet someone higher-ranked in the round of 16. But getting that far might be victory enough.

From former Brit Player and now Sky Sports presenter/commentator Chris Bailey...

This year has been one that Daniela Hantuchova would rather forget. After bounding on to the circuit last year she has struggled to live up to expectations and has become embroiled in rumours about her weight loss. I know her coach Nigel Sears very well - he used to be my coach! And I know that a lot of what is written about her is absolute rubbish. She knows that she has lost weight and is making every effort to put it back on again but when you are a serious athlete it is not easy to put on ten pounds just like that.

Unfortunatly for Hantuchova, with the form she is showing, she doesn't stand a chance over the next fortnight, but she and Nigel will do everything they can to get her figure back to where it was last year and hopefully she will be able to challenge the best players again.

Well, if Nigel is a good coach, then how come he would let her lose weight in the first place?

But the damage has been done and Chris can't say it any better. Let us hope for the best that Daniela can get back to where she was last year.

Thank you for saying it for me! :wavey: But then again.....

Nigel is partly responsible for today's situation, if not fully. But sometimes when athletes start changing things, their form starts running away from them even quicker. Anyways, since I'm not Daniela, I don't know the full story here. My advice stays the same, if she thinks she has a mental problem, then find a sports psychologist.
