Mikhail Youzhny revived memories of his Davis Cup final heroics on Tuesday as he recovered from a nightmare start to beat French teenager Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round in Halle. He'll face Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman in the second round.

The Russian sixth seed, who came from two sets down to beat Mathieu in the deciding rubber of the Davis Cup final in December, lost the first five games but stormed back to win 1-6 6-1 6-2 and take his place in the last 16.

One break of serve in the fourth game of the second set put Youzhny on his way and, three games later, the pair were level at one set apiece.

An early break in the third seemed to knock the spirit out of Mathieu and Youzhny romped away with the set to complete his third come-from-behind victory over the Frenchman.
