Current Odds to win Wimbledon from six online Sports books (I was looking for OZ odds, if someone has them)

How long can Martina Hingis's name carry her?

She is given, by virtually every bookie, the same chance of winning Wimbledon as Lindsay, Serena and Jenn.
Justine Henin was a WB finalist in 2001.
Martina has lost in the 1st round two out of the last 3 years.
Every bookie gives Martina more of a chance of winning it tha Justine.

Go figure.

Um, Hings was injured in 2001, and, outsde that and the loss in 1999, Martina has either won the tournamet or lost to the eventual champion every year that she has ever played it.

Want a person on there for her name only? Look no futher than Anya.

Most of the odds are pretty alright. But what is Anna doing there? She has won a tournament yet, and has been injured for so long. I think other people deserve to be there.

well, i agree with justin on the martina point

as for justine above kim, i think that the odds are only slightly exaggerated. justine after all did reach the wimby finals and in the previous tourney beat kim on grass.

i'm a bit surprised at jelena having similar odds with kim. i would expect her to have a chance almost as good as justine's. after all, she's never lost before the 4th round. and in 2 out of 3 years she lost to lindsay, who's solid as a rock on grass.

in fact, this year she improved from last year despite losing in the 4th round, because the scoreline was narrower.

THis is the first I've heard of any injury to Martina at 2001 Wimbledon. I think she had the sam injury Venus had at Roland Garros. 'Overlooking-the-current-opponent-itis'.

I'm sure the only reason Anna's name is on the board is because people ask. Laura Granville would be on the board already if enough people ask.

That's a new low in confidence from Hingis then.

Faked a stay at the hospital the week before so she could have something to blame a loss on...

I don't think there's anything wrong with those odds.

Martina may have crashed out of Wimbledon twice in the past three years but she has won it before and I'm sure she has other titles on grass. That opposed to Justine's one 's-Hertogenbosch and one final appearance which may have been on a hot streak for all we know. Aside from her 10 consecutive grass wins, Justine's grass record isn't very good. And it wasn't like Wimbledon was easy for her.

Kim that far off? Well, she did lose very embarrassingly this year at Wimbledon to Davenport...and got beat by Justine on grass.

I hope the odds stay bad for her, really. That way, I'll get a big pay off when she wins.

BTW - Are there any odds on Hantuchova?

Volcana: you apparently missed the articles AND discussion on this board about Martina aquiring tendonitis in her back, which included her visit to the hospital.

If I'm not mistaken, was this not also the reason for her pulling out of the Canadian Open, several months later?

Becca - Actually I did miss it. The reason I missed it, I suppose, was I was so bummed out from Venus losing in the first round at RG, I basically avoided tennis til Wimbledon. I certainly avoided the boards, since I find the reaction some posters have to Venus losing somewhat distasteful.

When Martina lost in the first round at Wimbledon, I don't recall anyone mentioning an injury. Of course, I was also avoiding a lot of those threads, since I find the reaction some posters have to Martina losing somewhat distasteful. The fact that Martina is rarely ever injured is rather a point of pride among her fans. In fact, when she sprained her angle much was made of how long it had been since she missed time with an injury. I certainly hadn't heard the ankle was the 2nd serious injury of the year for her.

Is it something chronic, like Venus's wrists, or a one time sort of deal?

How long can Martina's name carry her ?

Not only was she a finalist at Oz but a semi finalist at the other grand slams which is an impressive record at grand slam level.

With regards to her ability to play on grass, well Martina has accomplished something on grass only two other people still active in the game have - she has actually WON Wimbledon.

Having said all that, these odds are eight months before the tournament, there's hardly much current form prior to the tournament to go on.

Anna's place there is questionable but..
Name active player, other than ones mentioned, who made it to the W semis in last 5 years and would have greater chance at W than Anna? Tauziat is unlikely to play. Graf is retired. Zvereva is nowhere to be seen. Novotna retired. ASV? With all due respect, I think Anna chance at W are higher than once of Arantxa. Who else?
Argh.. Lucic..

Volcana: I'm not actually positive if its an ongoing problem like Venus' wrist or not. I certaintly hope that it isn't, as I'd hate to see her have future injury problems like Venus has had to deal with.

I don't know a whole lot of the details. Though, it was wise of you to avoid the threads following her loss, as indeed SOME of the comments were distasteful as I imagine they were when Venus lost as well.

However, all I know is that she apparently had an injured back, and I heard "a touch of tendonitis", and am pretty sure thats why she pulled out of the Canadian Open. If anyone can correct me, or elaborate on this, it'd be much appreciated.

Wow! The tournament isn't for another several months. Why would anybody be taking those odds seriously?
