In a post on the 'Wimbledon 2004' thread, I added that "I feel you just might win it". I'm so pleased that for once in my life I'm right about something!

I'm absolutely 'over the moon' that you've won! This was no fluke, it was richly deserved considering the sacrifices you & your family have made.

I saw you play a couple of matches in Birmingham a few weeks ago & was that impressed by your positive attitude & determination, I was certain that I was watching a future Wimbledon Champion, but I didn't dare think it would be this year.

The photo I had taken with you, I will treasure forever and will never forget your approachable & polite attitude towards your fans!

I hope now that you are Wimbledon Champion our fickle journalists will not try & 'knock you down' like they have done with other sports personalities they have 'built up'.

You are a lovely, natural young lady & I'm positive you are level-headed enough to remain so, but beware of the parasites who will try to cash in on your success. I hope you've got people looking out for you.

I wish you every success for the future & hope it will be possible for you to return to Birmingham next year ( even though you are now Wimbledon Champion)!

Love Charles xxx

Congratulations Maria on winning the DFS Classic once again!
If anything, this was a more notable achievement than 2004 as your opponents put up tougher fights and you were also fighting off illness & injury problems!
Thank you for taking time out to give your fans autographs ( you very kindly signed the photo I had taken with you last year). With all your extra security this year I didn't think it would be possible, but you made the effort!THANKYOU!!
You really are a true champion & a fantastic role model for tennis (and all sport)!
I really hope you do manage to find your way 'home' to Birmingham in 2006, that would be fantastic!!
Enjoy the rest of your season & please stay as you are, natural, friendly & HAPPY!!
Charles x

Congratulations Maria! (NOT on losing the match!) for winning new fans over by your tenacity, in fighting all the way against Venus, accepting defeat graciously, giving due credit to your opponent and being the perfect sportswoman! All this when you must have been hurting so much!
I felt so sad for you when you lost because you've put so much effort into trying to retain your Title. But everything usually happens for the best so I'm sure that in a day or two you will find some 'positives' to come out of today which will make you an even better player!
Thank you Maria for gracing the courts of England once again (particularly here in Birmingham, where I feel you should be given the 'Freedom of the City'!) :worship:
Please come back next year. You are so VERY VERY WELCOME!! :wavey:

ps. STAY HAPPY!! :)
