Conchita has not been a match for the Williams, although Venus almost lost to Conchita in the Chase, and 2 matches against Serena were to 3 sets.
Conchita leads Davenport, Dokic, Rubin, Mauremos & Hantuchova, that means 5 of 10 players!! :D
She has defeated Kim, and although she has not defeated Henin yet, she had a match point against her on Fed Cup and was leading 3-6 7-5 5-1.

I think is quite a great record against the current top 10

(Thanks God Monica is not on it right now) :p

You know why though? She takes so bloody long between points her opponents have time to completely lose concentration.

Good record, but interesting she was never able to beat the Williams sisters, not even in those early career years for them.
Her game is helpless against the big hitters when they are playing well.
Conchita could certainly sneak into the top ten since i don`t think Daniela, Dokic, Rubin belong this stellar group, plus this players are struggling all over the place. At Miskina has been a lot more consistent this year, and is 11th.

Thanks Anabel! :wavey:

Interesting stats, Conchita if playing as well as she is now, should sneak back into the top 10, as she has virtually no points to defend until October. :)

how weird, Petosp once again posting in Conchita threads... ;)
i noticed that too. there's something of a "small prick, big car" thing going on with Petosp, fan of sacred gabriela sabatini. i bet he just hates seeing Conchita getting these wins over top-10 players, despite being 31 years old and in her 16th year as a pro player, with the top-20 beckoning.

must be something to do with the bashing Conchita gave Gaby in the Rome final ten years ago

Those wins are good for her, as i said she stand REAL chances of making top ten, since lot of people in there are not playing like top 10. Dokic, Daniela, and Rubin has not had great results lately.

Yes for sure, but i rather remember of her 12 years before in the semis of 1991 Rome

1991 Rome Clay (O) SF Gabriela SABATINI 6-1 6-0

For sure really SIMILAR to a 7-5 6-1 score. LOL

PS. I never threw Gaby on this thread, but you "baleineau" started it, please leave this here since i don`t want to start a ridiculous and endless conversation on this

Conchi and Gaby, so skilled, so inconsistent...
I guess it's part of being a genius, as Van Gogh, Mozart, etc:p

Conchita has never defeated the Williams, but she was close to do it.

In their early careers? She played only 1 match in their early careers, at Rome'98.

Not good enough against the big hitters? Well, i guess Dokic Davenport Hantuchova Jennifer don't know how to hit the ball hard...

Just remember that Conchita's four titles in Rome were no original feat bearing in mind someone else had been there and done that ...

Anyway, I like them both so I'm happy to see Conchita still up there :D.

Good luck against Serena !

I wasn't talking about Evert - Gaby made six appearances in the Rome final, winning four of them.

Still, if you're a Gaby fan then that's .

Conchi was the first and only one to win 4 consecutive italian open titles, and nearly got the 5th!! but got a muscle spasm in her neck which meant she could not turn her head to the right in the final!! I think it was to the right anyway!!
