Clijsters now not very likely to participate.

A few days ago she was doubting whether after the USO she would be returning home to Belgium or to accompany Lleyton to Australia.

She chose the last option, and with Lleyton playing the Fed Cup semi's on for September 19th till 21th, she won't show up in time in Leipzig, as she's already insinuating in her online diary.

Why do they give Dokic, a falling star, a WC ? It would have been better to give one to Tanasurgan or a player that is rising but not so familiar with European indoor events but who would have extended the variety within the event.

It´s a fact Dokic told everyone 2002 to limit her schedule for 2003 and now she plays each week again and the success is nothing.

Why did they invite Dokic ?

Will Lleyton play Fed Cup for Belgium? Then USA is toast, unless Roddick plays.

Why are you all so sure Kim won't play?

She always comes to Australia afte the US Open with Lleyton and has then had to rush off and play Tokyo (1 week prior to Leipzig). They have showed lleyton arriving in melbourne at the airport and kim wasn't with him. Kim never said she was going to the davis cup. But it is on 19-21 and europe is behind australian time, now leipzig starts on 22 and kim is top seed so will get a bye and won't probably play till the 24th so she could leave on the 21st and be there in time, a bit jet lagged but it is still possible. I'm not even sure Kim is still in Australia

Kim may or may not play but nothing is certain yet.

It seems like a weak tournament to me, with or without Kim

unusually weak tournament given this won by
Serena last year and Kim the previous year,
if Kim withdrew, Nastya will probably be the top seed,
with only one TOP 10 in a Tier II, it is just.... :(

and so many clay courters + slumping players,
this isnt exactly the nicest lineup there is......
with Moscow coming up, it just doesnt make sense to me
why some Russians will be in Germany instead of China,

this indoor season just reminds me of the indoor season 2 year ago,
when Lindsay had a perfect run then and Jelena bankin all those points
which carried her to career her high #4 after US Open last yr,
i'm expecting another Jelena here, i say Elena D will probably
do another run like that.....

final thought, for the 2nd year in a row, no German player
made direct entry, and we knew about the financial problems
German tennis association was having last yr,
dont think it's gonna get any better this yr....

2 years ago Jelena got all those points to end the year inside the Top 10. She achieved #4 last year before the USO.

Maybe it's weak tournament because it's totally different event than others. Surface in Leipizg is amazing fast and ball almost didn't bounce. It's almost like grass. In Filderstadt surface is also fast but ball bounce very high. In Zurich balls bounce high and court isn't to fast.

indoor courts are faster....i thought Leipzig and Filderstadt
have the same surface......:)
anyways, it just cant get any weaker, and dont see
other top 10 trying out for WC's.

Is Justine no longer playing? Why did someone say Myskina would be the top seed if Kim dropped out?

Anyway, Kim confirmed on her site that she will play :)

Indeed Kim did confirm she would play yesterday, but today Justine expressed serious doubts about playing here because of that back problem that seems to be bothering her.
