LUXEMBOURG (AP) -- Third-seeded Amanda Coetzer of South Africa beat Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the $170,000 SEAT Open.

Coetzer will next play Kveta Hrdlickova of the Czech Republic. Hrdlickova edged Lubomira Bacheva of Bulgaria 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Anke Hueber of Germany topped Nathalie Dechy of France 6-1, 6-3. Tina Pisnik of Slovenia defeated Claudine Schaul of Luxembourg 6-2, 6-7 (9), 6-1, to earn a second-round match against second-seeded Silvia Farina Elia of Italy.

In the first round, Rita Grande of Italy swept past Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus 6-1, 6-2 to earn a match against top-seeded Kim Clijsters.

Clijsters, a Belgian ranked fifth in the world, had a first-round bye. She won this tournament in 1999.

Last year's winner, Jennifer Capriati, is not playing.
