It shouldn't have even been this close. Massive respect for Maria.
Would love to see a re-match at the French Open :eek:h:

Maria needs to bring this focus and determination with her. Her attitude has really been phenomenal all week.
With a well rested and healthy body, she could go very far at the French Open. Let's hope her getting a seed also gets her a good draw.

People need to try not to react to sad simona fans goading here and on Twitter. In the end we know the truth, Maria played 8 hours more than the basic One, and she still nearly beat her, if they face off at Roland Garros, I know who will win.

This week has been the best since she's come back I think, she struggled with fatigue at the end, but she seemed fit, looked like she had a lot in the armoury with different strokes.

Her serve comes and goes we know that, today was maybe one of those worst goes days, but it didn't seem physical, so hopefully we'll never get one as bad as that again.

So so proud of her effort out there today. She gave it her all despite looking dead tired for most of the match (and rightfully so). She gave Halep a tough match and most importantly she must probably feel now as if she's a real contender for the title in Paris. She has played different opponents both in Madrid and here and now I feel that she has the preparation needed to really compete at a slam.

Amazing tournament and amazing performances throughout. She went the whole of last year losing to scrubs left and right and now she's back in the big league winning matches against opponents that caused her trouble in the past.

PS: Thank you to Thomas for really bringing out the best in Maria again. She looked like a completely different player this clay season. Really looking forward to see what her result will be in Paris.

:cheer: great tournament. Rest, maria!

I didn't get to see a lot of the match, but what was wrong with her serve? Was she not going for it?
Not going for it bar when she was pumped full of adrenaline in some key moments. She just looked like her legs were heavy when pushing off. Which is obviously no real surprise. Her movement was pretty good for the most part considering, but she never looked authoritative on serve.

So proud of Maria these last two weeks! I feel like the Maria we know and love is back. It feels great to be back in Maria Mode, to be excited and nervous for every one of her matches. And finally, we can go into a slam feeling like she has a real shot at doing something big. Not completely sure she's ready to win a slam yet, but she's definitely a contender and could go really far. That in itself is a great feeling. She showed a lot of guts and grit out there against Halep when she had to be tired. I have no doubt if she plays Halep again at the French when it really matters, Maria will win. I'd much rather Maria beat her in a slam than at a regular tournament.

Genuinely I think she went for maybe 10 BHDTL shots over the last year under Sven. Today it was her best shot by far.
Literally the only thing she did great today. :tears: :tears: Such a gorgeous shot. :hearts: :hearts:

Goodness me, if she can puts couple things together, great things might happen for her.

If she can sustain over 10 hours of match play without day rest without any harm in terms of injury forcing her to withdraw, there is a plenty of positives going into Roland Garros, where she will get days off between matches (barring complete rain days). Just super happy for her, even if she lost today. :) :)

Rome is over now, so many positives from this week. No point in listing them as they have all been said.

I was happy when she reached the quarters and the Ostapenko win was the icing on the cake.

Onto Paris now, if the weather holds up, Maria will have a day off between matches which works in her favour. For the first round, I hope for a relatively easy opponent, someone like Diyas. I'm not seeing a weak top 8 seed apart from possibly Wozniacki who might not even reach the 3rd round. I think Maria will face an added pressure in Paris but I think that is something she will overcome as she now has confidence.

And an added bonus of Maria finding her form and doing well is that a certain 'toxic' poster seems to have disappeared <img src="http://imgsrv2.tennisuniverse.com/wtaworld/ubb/tongue.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Stick Out Tongue" class="inlineimg" />
Oh no, I' m still here. Not much to say about today given the clown serving from both, which was understandable for pova to an extent ( she could still do better ) but for halep yikes. She must remove her inspirational bs coach too because she played well below her level because she still sucks mentally.

Pova's mentality still sucks too (can not she get broken once while serving for the set/match or take some bps instead of squandering them left and right? )

And she proved me right that the forearm was never the main issue in all the previous losses because 1) she didn't get a new forearm in 2-3 weeks 2) she's still flexing her wrist every match while being able to blister bhs, something she never did before.

Still, for the first time in ages she showed she was in the match till the end and at least have expectations for herself and getting angry and pissed that she was losing. Thank you baby Jesus for finally let us see a reaction. See what happens when you start removing from your life situations and people who bring you down? As I' ve always said. It's not so much the addition of a coach that made the difference, rather the removal of toxic environment, at least in her job.

Imagine if she starts doing the same in her private life and remove all the people and situations that are still bringing her down. She still doesn't realize what she's missing by sticking with them. I can promise you that even in her job her mentality will improve radically without her even realizing it.

I hope she has a rest day tomorrow, go to a spa, don't think about anything especially art or insecurities bs psychobubble, do some rehab for her arm and sleep a lot.

Paris can wait another day.

Oh and thank you pova for not giving me seizure by posting art or food shit from Rome. That nadal bit was the best pr she had in years. Worth leaving it there all alone for a few days instead of being overshadowed by useless shit like food or art .

I hope she works on her serve and balltoss in Paris because even leaving out today it has been underwhelming and can be cause of concern going into rg.

I've never felt so satisfied after a loss. It was obvious she wasn't 100%. I spotted a few instances where she had a forehand to go DTL that would possibly end the point but she resorted to going back crosscourt with a neutral shot. When a player does that it's because they can't generate the acceleration needed to hit that shot. She couldn't generate that acceleration because she was spent. Same thing with her serves, they weren't that inconsistent, but they had no pop. Judging from my untrained eye she must have been down 10kph at least on her flat serves, which had no effect on Halep at all.

You have to give credit to Halep though, as I thought she hung in there well, and she hit some marvelous backhands herself and chased down Maria's shots better than anyone had this week but we now know she's afraid to serve to Maria. Completely understandable the way Maria was returning the ball. LOL

Looking good for the FO for Maria me thinks.

Im not sad about the loss at all. You can see how much will she has. No one fights harder and wants it more. She was so close to the world number 1 despite being physically spent. So so impressive. She is back.
