Venus served for it twice in the 2nd set, at 63 *54 and 63 *65. Also had 0-30 on Kiri's serve at 63 53*. Should have closed it out in two.

Good stuff from Venus for the first 1.5 sets and then in the last half of the 3rd set. Served quite well apart from when she got tense at the end of the 2nd set.

Kiri was alright. Too many DF's though.

On this quick court against someone like Kirilenko, 6-4 6-3 win for Venus even on a mediocre day. Expecting a 6-2 6-2 beating though.

Pretty much was going according to plan at 6-3 *5-4. Mediocre Venus disposing of Kirilenko's useless wannabe game.

She got pretty sloppy and tight at the end surprisingly more off the BH than the FH. NID win.

Venus made that so difficult for herself for no reason. It seemed as though she thought Kirilenko was just going to give it to her at 5-3 in the second.

Especially considering she must conserve energy to compete at these type of events, she can't have a day like she did today. She has to be focused the entire time.

I am very happy to see her great movement and shot production from the Olympics. It looks like we may have Venus Williams back, for real this time! :yeah: She has a great draw, let's see what she can do.

Sometimes Maria looks so unfocused about what she wants to do, and then when she's really down she suddenly focuses for two or three points.

Venus, fighting and winning, good serving, good defense. Maybe just a few more holds, and this would have been accomplished in two sets.
