She is #38 in the normal rankings and #36 in the race. Last year she made the Quarterfinals in Bogota, Acapulco, $50K Orange ( ) and Stockholm. She made the Semifinals in Seoul in October (put up the best fight against eventual winner Vaidisova) and made the Budapest final. She also made the 4R in Miami as a qualifier and 3R in Rome as a qualifier. Best wins were over Suarez, Schnyder and Dulko. She rose so much mainly because she didn't have much to defend...I hope she continues her success this year...but after yesterdays 61 30 choke.... :sobbing:
I don't know what happened in 2005 but Catalina went from being a average clay courter to a danger on all surfaces *Apart from grass though *
I remember watching her against Danilidou at the olympics and have never seen a Top 100 player look so out of depth on a hard court yet against Serena in USOpen 2005 the change is amazing. She has a great serve, consisent if not that powerful shots and a great attitude. If she'd taken her chances in the 1st set it could have been a much tougher match for Serena.
I don't see her making Top 20 but on her day, I think she could be a very dangerous darkhorse
