Venus has 4 GS and Martina has 5, can Venus overtake Martina in GS department. To me she can, but I am hoping Martina can end the streak of not having won a GS, I hope if it is its at French. Venus can do that and maybe LINDSAY???

I think Venus can. Unless of course Martina wins the other 2 slams Venus doesn't win everyyear, starting from 2002. Then she'll lead Venus by 1 every year.

Don't worry, Martina will win a slam soon. Once she sorts out her game, she'll!

At some point Venus wil have more. And at some point after that, it's highly likely Martina will have more. Both could easily finish with 7-10 GS titles. Both have been streaky. Hingis won 5 GS titles in 3 years. Venus has won 4 GS titles in 2 years.

And in 2002, Jenn, Lindsay, Serena and Kim may split the GS titles, leaving Venus and Martina with frustration and wait-til-next-year.

It is hard to bet against Venus winning a slam next year considering how easily she took the US Open. She was ill, and her parents were seperated, yet she took it without dropping a set.

At first I thought this was about the HEAD to HEAD record. Anyway,Yes I do think Venus can overtake Hingis next year.

I would be suprised if Venus doesn't overtake Martina. Martina is not as dominant at the Oz or the French as Venus is at Wimbledon & the U.S.

At the end of their careers though I wouldn't be suprised if Martina were ahead. She's likely to have a longer career than Venus who seems to struggle with injuries.

I have a feeling that they will end up tied within a few years....not sure exactly how it will work out though.

And as for their head-to-heads....is Hingis leading like 10-7? I think Venus could catch up and tie here within the next 2 years as well.

Unless someone emerges who can legitimately challenge Venus for Wimbledon or US open, I imagine she will have overtaken Martina by the end of this year.

Martina sustained a major injury towards the end of the season, what makes anyone think that she will come back in better shape ???
I mean , when she was healthy she couldn't defeat a top 10er, get to a final or even win a tournament in months. Personally, I believe we've seen the best from her...
I realize expectations are high, but in 2000 and 2001 Venus showed the tennis world that she's capable of correcting weaknesses in her game and taking advice...

So given their current form, and barring any serious injuries , I'll say that Venus overtaking her is as inevitable as nightfall. Of course this is just my humble opinion

I would bet my bottom dollar that Venus will overtake Hingis in total Slam counts. Hingis, in the long-run, will probably only be a contender at the French (especially now that Clijsters is on the scene); whereas Venus is already a contender at all 4 of the slams.

I do think that Hingis may have the physical makeup to play for a longer time than Venus. But supposing Venus plays for 5 more years and Hingis 9, I'd bet on Venus winning at least 8 to 10 more Slams, and I'd be surprised if Hingis won 4.

Venus has only gotten to the semis in Aussie and quarters in French, not much of a contender there is she?

Venus' game is on its way up. Hingis' game is on a decline. So you can't look at past performance to determine how they'll do. If we were, we'd believe that Hingis is a contender at all GS. We know that that's not the case.

We do know that AO is hardcourt which is one of Venus' best surfaces. We also know that at an even lower level of play, Venus managed to pull down a title on clay. So, winning RG is just a matter of time.
