I dunno why, but this has just come back to me. I read in a post a while back on Anna and how she was good friends with most on tour, forgetting what the media says, but someone said not with Patty cause of what she had said.

Anyone know what she said, cause i missed that?

(i'm big fans of both so im just curious)

ThkU!

I cannot recall what she said but one thing do stick in mind is in 1998 (or 1999) Hilton Head tournament, when Anna play Patty, Patty tanked the match deliberately so she can get out of the place because she feel very uncomfortable playing with Anna

Patty did not tank that match in Hilton Head in 1999. I watched the match.
However you might refer to a match 6 days later in Amelia Island, which was not broadcasted over here. But the score tells you that there was something wrong out there.

alpha,
yeah that is the match I am talking about, I mean I seen clips of it and I remember Patty don't even bother to go to the seat during changeover just go to the other side of the net to wait for Anna to serve, a very bizarre match and certainly was one of the matches which started the downturn of Patty

Wasn't around the time that Patty was hanging out with that orange juice guru? Didn't Anna have some kind of affiliation with him as well?

From what little I remember she just said that she couldn't stand her and that made it difficult for her to play her.

I'm not actually sure that makes much sense

I missed this too. Anyone know _exactly_ what was said?

I thought that something had happened the match before the one Patty tanked.

Patty said in 98 that is was unfair that Kournakova got so much publicity and that she didn't respect the way she was blatantly sexy-seductive. Similar to what Spirelea said in 97-98. She also initially said anna didn't have many friends and patty said she was really friendly with most players other than her.
Then in 98 Patty taNKED THE MATCH AND SAID similar remarks not so suttely, when she was hanging with OJ man.
Anna replied, quite classily, that she has her own issues and wasn't reallyu worried about what she said. (at the time it was public knowldeg that patty was estranged frmo her family due to OJ man)
Anna is not my fav player but she handled the situation pretty well.
I am a big Patty fan and am glad tosee that she finally seems to have recovered from the dark days of early 99 and 2000

Kournikova beats rattled Schnyder

By Michael DiRocco
Times-Union sports writer

AMELIA ISLAND - Patty Schnyder must have wished she were somewhere else than Stadium Court at the Bausch & Lomb Championships yesterday, because it certainly looked as if she were.

Schnyder appeared uninterested and aloof during a 40-minute 6-0, 6-2 quarterfinals loss to Anna Kournikova. The sixth-seeded Schnyder listlessly loped around the court, and even appeared to sometimes quit on points.

And the 20-year-old Swiss native confirmed those observations after the match.

''I hate playing her and I don't play if I'm on the court against her,'' Schnyder said. ''It's her person and everything around her. It's not her game.

''It's not the tennis that's the problem. It's my mind.''

The state of Schnyder's mind has been under scrutiny the past several months. Schnyder dumped coach Eric van Harpen for German Rainer Harnecker, a 42-year-old described as a healer and who urges Schnyder to drinkquarts of orange juice daily because it is similar to a mother's milk, according to the Zurich newspaper Blick. Schnyder's parents have been quoted as saying they will not accept their daughter until she leaves Harnecker.

Schnyder was quoted in a German paper as saying she would like to reconcile with her parents, but that they must give Harnecker - who Swiss newspapers reported is under investigation by German police for possibly breaking laws on alternative health care - a chance to explain himself.

The controversy hasn't affected her tennis, though.

She won the season-opening Gold Coast event before hooking up with Harnecker, and her ranking has risen into the top 10. But Kournikova didn't see a player who is among the world's best yesterday.

''I think she has problems at home,'' Kournikova said. ''I don't think she's happy. She doesn't look like a happy person to me, that's all.''

Schnyder spoke of friction between herself and Kournikova that dates back to Kournikova's 6-1, 6-3 third-round victory at the Bausch & Lomb last year.

Schnyder accused Kournikova of using stalling tactics, which angered her and disrupted her focus last year.

''We're not really the best of friends on tour,'' Schnyder said. ''There's been some fighting.''

Kournikova, however, said she wasn't aware of any problems.

''I haven't ever spoken to her,'' Kournikova said. ''I think she's a nice girl. I've never had any conversations with her, or any problems.''

Whatever the reason, Schnyder can't seem to get past Kournikova.

She lost to Kournikova at Amelia last year in straight sets and also fell to the Russian in three sets last week at the Family Circle Cup in Hilton Head Island, S.C. During that match, Schnyder rallied from a 4-5, love-30 deficit to win the first set 7-6, but Kournikova went on to rout her 6-0, 6-3 in the next two.

''Last time I was really impressed with myself that I could really play my game for one set,'' Schnyder said.

''Then I quit playing. I just can't play against her.''

Schnyder's dislike for Kournikova interfers with her game (May 29, 1999)

PARIS (AP) -- Anna Kournikova may be adored by the French fans, but she's not so well-liked by No. 11-seeded Patty Schnyder.

That's putting it mildly. The 20-year old Swiss player said after losing her match Saturday with the Russian star that she played badly because she so dislikes Kournikova.

"I have a problem playing her," Schnyder said.

When asked if the problem was personal, she nodded in the affirmative.

This isn't the first time Schnyder's disike for Kournikova has affected her play. In April the two played each other in Florida at the Bausch & Lomb Championships and Schnyder seemed to tank the match.

"I hate playing (Kournikova) and I don't play if I'm on the court with her," said Schnyder afterward. "It's her ... and everything around her."

On Saturday, Kournikova wouldn't speak about bad feelings between her and Schnyder.

"I don't know her personally at all. There are a thousand players on the tour," she said.

frisbiewibble, that comment about drilling the ball at anna by patty.....was at the 2000 Australian Open, when Kournikova and Barbara Schett played doubles against Sonya Jeyaseelan and Patty Schnyder. Before the match, pleaded with Schett to give her a short ball so that she could drill Kournikova. (patty and babsi had been doubles partners before)

babsi didn't give her the chance though
....and anna/barbara won
......
