I have been surprised to see a quiet resurgence of Alexandra Stevenson, who hasn't done much since her Wimbledon semifinal a few years ago. In this week's newly releashed rankings, she has risen to 76 in the world and is currently playing in the qualifying draw of the Linz tourney (?). Can she make some sort of comeback? Does anyone have any information about who she is working with? Is her mom still with her?

BTW, if anyone has any information on Mirjana Lucic, I would love to see it. I haven't heard anything about her since the FO.

apoet,

Alexandra had a good run in Moscow, but this week she lost 3-6, 3-6 in the first round of qualifying to Elena Bovina. It is so hard to know with that girl!

Mirjana is supposed to play in a Challenger event in Florida next week, I learned here. Please join us in following her results in the Challenger section here on this board!

Yes, I'm very happy to see Alexandra backing on the tour..... I mean backing to have good results, cause she always was present all the time! I really miss Mirjana... Would be great if we see both girl doing great, they surprised the world reaching the semis in Wimbledon 1999, now both are fighting to stay at least in top 100.. I think this is bad.....
Well, i just wish good luck to Mirjana in her combeack, in a challenger in Florida and to Alexandra vs Els Callens tomorrow in Zurich

Alexandra gained a lot of weight last year. And her game wasn't all that refined in 1999. I think she's about where she should be, ranking-wise. She can turn herself intp a top twenty player with a lot of work and conditioning. It would be good to see her. I'm al0ways happy when people who've been shat on come back. Cause if anyone could give the whole tour and all us fans a royal 'fuck you' for how she's been treated, its Alex. I hope she fulfills her potential.

Tell me, why is Alex and comeback in the same sentence?? She 's a player who had 1 good outing and and has yet to back it up...I still say the kid needs to head back to college :p

a comeback?

sorry alex fans but i dont think there could be such a thing becaus ei think wimbeldon 1999 for her wasn't to be.....she wasn't ready!

In a few years time once shes better conditioned , and experienced i really hope she can break the top twenty cos she has the talent and artillery to do so!

but to quesiton if shes gonna make a comeback doesnt make sense....cos alex has never been up there , and other than wimbeldon 99 which as i said she wasnt ready for , she hadnt done much.....and if u check her results at wimby she wa slucky to make it that far , winning alot of matces in 3 sets and jelena pretty much had her before the rain delay..

Being that this thread is rather old I think Alex has done rather nicely in 2002 even though she has some consistency and a string of losses during the summer.

I think as each comes and goes you will see fewer bad matches from her. 2003 I think will be a test but I predict she will be the most dangerous player on tour.

My guess is, a top 20 ranking feels real good. Alex seems more content, her Mom's still with her, and she seems to feel no need to taunt her suddenly MUCH quieter nay-sayers. Or maybe she's saving the 'fuck you' for after she wins her first tournament.

She wont go that much higher unless she gets a fulltime coach.

If you mean coaching wise, then her mother.

If she got a real coach she could be a legitimate threat for GS titles and the #1 ranking.
