Both her and her sister underachieved so much in singles, I wish they gave it another try as they're still pretty young (and with very aesthetically pleasing strokes). Embarrassing loss for Vikhlyantseva though, given Kichenok's total lack of match practice in singles in the last few years: she's progressing incredibly slowly, if anything at all.

I saw Kichenok beat Barty in the olden days of Barty 1.0 in Birmingham qualifying. Agreed about her singles - she also qualified for WTA Charleston earlier this year with wins over Zhuk and Dolehide, so that means overall, in the three singles tournaments she has played she has won four matches and only lost two (so far) which is a pretty respectable record for a doubles specialist who only gets drafted in when there are qualifying withdrawals.

I don’t understand why she doesn’t give singles a shot during the offseason at least. She’s 5-2 since 2018 including a win over Gavrilova, so she clearly has some game left.

It’s either an Olaru type of situation where she has absolutely no funding to fall back on if things go wrong, or a Kalashnikova situation where she’s fed up of the grind and doesn’t want to leave the fancy WTA lifestyle for ITFs.

Plus, wasn’t Lyudmila supposed to be the more talented of the sisters? I remember when she played Stosur tight in Fed Cup back when Stosur was close to the top, but never went anywhere.

She’s not good physically, took an mto nearly every match when she played on the ITF tour.

one of the Kichenok twins is a sweetie and the other one is quite bitchy (not sure which is which though)... they're really different characters, probably why they often play doubles with other partners. Both of them seem to pick up a few good singles wins from time to time.

Vikhlantseva is one of the slowest Top 100 players that i have seen. Just not a good mover and relies on bashing to make up the difference. Needless to say it often doesn't work.
