Just thought that as not every British girl will warrent a unique thread this is a spot and some news may not be exclusive for one player so I figured this may be the place for news like that.

I saw on Britennis that 22 year old Manisha Foster won her first ITF in SES and just into the top 1000 moving up some 300 places :cheer:

Lots of British interest in Surbiton main draw - a mixture of direct entrants, qualifiers, lucky losers and wild cards.

I'm just going to C&P the draw from the tournament thread, as it's the easiest way to see where all the Brits are placed:

(1)Ying-Ying Duan (CHN) v Sanaz Marand (USA)
Jaimee Fourlis (AUS) v Marina Melnikova (RUS)
Martina Caregaro (ITA) v Sherazad Reix (FRA)
(7)Robin Anderson (USA) v (wc)Harriet Dart (GBR)

(3)Lesley Kerkhove (NED) v Maria Sanchez (USA)
Catalina Pella (ARG) v Tereza Mrdeza (CRO)
Storm Sanders (AUS) v Julia Terziyska (BUL)
(8)Elitsa Kostova (BUL) v (Q)Emily Arbuthnott (GBR)

(5)Mayo Hibi (JPN) v (Q)Georgina Axon (GBR)
Katy Dunne (GBR) v Stephanie Foretz (FRA)
(LL)Emma Hurst (GBR) v Alison Bai (AUS)
(4)An-Sophie Mestach (BEL) v (Q)Magdalena Frech (POL)

(6)Ons Jabeur (TUN) v (SR)Melanie Oudin (USA)
(Q)Alexandra Stevenson (USA) v (wc)Emily Appleton (GBR)
(wc)Gabriella Taylor (GBR) v Renata Zarazua (MEX)
(2)Kai-Chen Chang (TPE) v (wc)Samantha Murray (GBR)

The three Brits at the bottom of the draw won, so Emily Appleton will play Mel Oudin, and Gabi and Sam will play each other.

The other Brits lost.

Doubles draw (and some results)

Hepburn/Phillips (GBR/GBR) d. Ghodrati/Harrington (GBR/GBR) 61 06 10-6
(4)Anderson/Bai (USA/AUS) v Miyazaki/Weymouth (JPN/GBR)
Murray/Taylor (GBR/GBR) v Caregaro/Mrdeza (ITA/CRO)

Marand/Oudin (USA/USA) d. Eklund/Stevenson (FIN/USA) 63 64
(3)Pella/Reix (ARG/FRA) d. Pitak/Pitak (GBR/GBR) 61 62
Grey/Terziyska (GBR/BUL) v Dart/Dunne (GBR/GBR)

Ructions over the team selection for the Sussex Winter Cup team 5 years ago.

IIRC, she was quite a big fish in the small pool of Sussex junior tennis back in the day, but a quick google search I did just now failed to find any local news articles. You'll be able to find her linkedin profile, though, which shows she graduated last year, and has been coaching tennis all the while.

Eastbourne QWCs for Robson, Burrage, Christie and Dunne:

(1)Puig v (wc)Christie
Linette v (16)Allertova

(4)Brengle v (wc)Dunne
(wc)Robson v (9)McHale

(7)Lepchenko v Cirstea
(wc)Burrage v (14)Zheng

Tough draw. All unseeded players face seeds in R1, and the lowest seed is Allertova, ranked 80. Top seed Puig is ranked 43.

None of our WC girls are ranked above 280, so that's a massive gulf in quality.

I try to record every rankings' debut here, so are Ella and Eden the last British women to enter the WTA list? Not one debutante this year, I think. (There are one or two who have regained rankings.)

Of course last year we had four gaining rankings during the final British 10K (in old money) swing; maybe someone will come from nowhere this time around.

Otherwise we're probably relying on Alice Gillan jetting off to another continent and getting drawn against a local wild card in R1 in the next few weeks, before her two counting scores fall off.
