poor jordan. my friends had them. they said the first two weeks would be pure hell. then you get adjusted to it and it doesn't hurt so much. painkillers would help. a friend of mine took advil twice each time it hurt ( so basically by the end of the day she was like drugged or something, it was so funny). try not eating anything hard right now. you'd be amazed at how some people could survive eating off noodles and soup for two weeks.
Hi Jordan! I know what you are going through. But I've done the braces thing TWICE! I first had them from ages 12-14. I thought that would be the end of it, right? WRONG! I hit a growth spurt around 15 and the doctors think that my top and bottom jaws grew wrong. So, in November of 2000 (at age 20) I had to get braces a second time! I also had to have both of my jaws broken and reset. I got my braces off in August of 2001 (right before I turned 21). After my surgery I drank soup and milkshakes for about 4 weeks. Just take some Advil and be patient. The pay will slowly wear off! Good luck!
They are not that bad. I used to wear them some time ago. They only hurt for a week but then I got used to them. The main problem with me was that they kept falling out and my dentist was getting really mad at me as I was visiting her a bit too often
I had to wear braces for more than two years, ages 14 till16. It hurt every now and then, especially after the dentist tightened them. What I hated most though were the rubber bands! They'd snap every time I opened my mouth and it was such a hassle to put those thingies round those hooks. And of course, I used to have lots of little wounds in my mouth because of those hooks.
I've been having treatment for a year now and is till don't have train tracks!I've had 2 removable braces and this thing in the top of my mouth to push the teeth out!I should be getting train tracks in March!
Monica_rules, the opposite happened to me. I had train tracks right away (after having quite a few teeth removed, and I also had to wait until I didn't have any milk teeth left) and got a removable one after the tracks were gone. I only had to wear it night, the sole purpose was to keep my teeth the same. I don't have to wear them anymore.
I had them for two years. It was the worst two years of my life. Not because of the pain but they sort of put a damper on my social life, you know what I mean. Guys just don't want a certain sex act from a girl with braces! I thought I'd never bounce back!
I had braces for one-and-a-half years from 11 onwards, and they hurt but the results were worth it. Sadly a certain someone didn't bother her butt to wear her retainer all the time so now one side is still fine but the other is a tad crooked and I feel really conscious abput it. When you're 18 over here can you still get a brace for free as liong as you're still in full-time eduation?
I was going to a zillion dentists since I was 6. I'm 19 now (yuck almost 20 ), and I still never had braces/retainers/whatever. There was allways something - either this tooth had to go out, or this one had to grow or this or that. Oh did I mention I genetically didn't have three teeth? :/ Good thing they were all at the same spot, so I had to just take out the fourth one.
