Don't look for your Wimbledon champion among:

Aga
Petra
Sam
Caro
Sara

What kind of a message does it send to potential ticket buyers at pre slam events when players give garbage efforts like that? No wonder the stands are empty when the women play.
Eastbourne is packed

Mauresmo lost 1r in Eastbourne the year she won Wimbledon
Yes, but how often has that happened?

Usually, these warm-ups are quite good at predicting deep runs (everyone has basically fallen victim to Serena or Venus until 2011).

Can you imagine if half of the Top 10 falls before the first week?

Did anyone seriously consider Aga, Sam, Caro or Sara as potential wimbledon champions?
Same probably was said of Petra before she won last year  Eastbourne, however, was a good predictor, as she got to the final.

apart from petra non of those loses were a surprise. the other 4 girls games just don't translate to grass
Aga and Caro are both former junior Wimbledon champs.

Radwanska has been pretty solid on grass and her flat groundstrokes translate decently well to the grass. I thought her losing to Pironkova was sort of a surprise. I agree with the other three though.

Mauresmo did it in the same year, lost to Ivanovic in the 2nd round in Sydney 2006 (had a bye in the 1st round) :oh:

Ivanovic lost to Pironkova in the 2nd round in Rome 2008 (had a 1st round bye) then won RG.

Kuznetsova lost to Bondarenko in the 2nd round (IIRC) in Madrid 2009 then won RG.

Clijsters lost to Jankovic in the 2nd round in Toronto 2009 then won USO.

So are Dushevina and K. Bondarenko.
exactly, given there are literally no junior tennis on grass bar wimbledon, it is an even playing field of them all being equally unadapted to the surface.

Exceptions that prove the rule

But she won Stuttgart and reached the final of Rome, consecutively. Her opponent in both was Dinara, who also got to the final of RG. Madrid: Probably was burnt out/tanked.

Clijsters lost to Jankovic in the 2nd round in Toronto 2009 then won USO.
Actually, it was the third round. Kim doesn't care about warm-ups.

You mean like Martina Navratilova, Natalia Zvereva, Amelie Mauresmo, Maria Sharapova (former Wimbledon junior champs and r/ups.)
