Also spent about two hours reading through 19 pages of comments on the Iga-Elena match thread in GM. Iga stans getting a battering, wow. Congrats to @Overserved for the post that got the most likes over there 😂
I must admit that the thread is toxic, like GM in general. I read Coco's match thread and it is basically people laughing that she got bageled on her birthday and it feels like it made their day. However, some/many Swiatek fans are doing the exact same thing on every Emma thread for a year now. You have some haters who appear to hate everyone equal, they post one message and leave. Swiatek fans on the other hand act in grup, quoting each other with the same tired jokes and trying to insult as much as possible and dragging the thread for pages, they don't really know when to stop. And those threads are still there after the match ended 3-4 days ago, because of them. IW Emma matches thread felt different on GM I must say, she got a lot of support. Usually Emma fans only replied in a reactive way late and those trolls always start crying and act in a fake defensive way. But what I dislike most about them is that they don't admit what they are doing and if you read some other threads about Swiatek or some other players (usually polish, czech) they act like reasonable, friendly and caring people.

^ 2 hours?
Lol, 380 posts. I don't spend much time in GM, but had to see the reaction there, got lured in by that opening post, lol. I do waste my time foolishly sometimes, lol.

I generally don't pay attention to the stan comments going either way, seems silly and nasty to me, but there are some people who been paying attention to tennis for a long time there who do have some good observations.

But in my opinion, that match was bad, yet again, for the WTA. Not that Iga got beaten, but that she got beaten so easily, the reason doesn't matter. When you have two of the top three players playing each other and one doesn't show up to play and you get a lopsided match that's almost embarrasing to watch, that is not good for the WTA.

This generally does not happen in men's tennis. I am watching Carlos v Felix, two top 10 players, Felix is not top 3, yet it was a competitive match that the spectators can get into and enjoy.

It costs a lot to go to IW, not many live locally. So you have to take time off work, pay for transportation, maybe air travel, pay for accomodation, food, tickets. And after all that you end up watching a non-competitive match between 2 of the top 3 players no less. It's no wonder that the stadium was less than half full for Iga's match but was mostly full for Carlos match. Because womens matches can disappoint but for the most part men's matches live up to expectations and are competitive. There are not many 6-2, 6-2 results at this stage of a men's tournament.

However, i have great hopes for a competitive final. Their AO final was very competitive, a great match. I hope that both Sabs and Elena are at full health at 100% and give the WTA, and us the spectators, a great final. Go Elena!

Some people do cross the line on the Iga bashing, but that happens when you put yourself you out there like Iga does with the delay tactics and controversy.

It's amazing how one person can really Holt someone's career trajectory. The same person Stopped Iga advancing at AO and IW two of the biggest tournaments. A bit like what Steph Curry did to LeBron James.

I agree Emma gets a lot of hate from rival fanbases and that is uncalled for and quite frankly pathetic behaviour, but let’s not pretend everyone in EE is a saint and never badmouths other players… There’s a fair bit of bashing of other players, not just of Iga too, and two wrongs don’t make a right. I’ve only been on here a year and I do find it pretty nuts how much bitterness there is from one fanbase to another, and it seems that certain people from different fanbases go out of their way to incite drama and unfortunately the rival fan takes the bait every time so it all spirals out of control. Iga fans clearly love winding Emma fans up and vice versa. Everyone is free to dislike and like whoever they want, and criticism is obviously allowed otherwise we’d all be living under a censorship but the constant bickering, talking badly of players because some of their fans are deluded and trying to get one up on each other is very weird behaviour from who I presume are all mature adults… Not sure I was expecting this when I signed up to TF 🤔

I personally find EE a pretty pleasant and fun place to be a part of, but I think TF would be an ever better community without the unnecessary fights and trying to wind other fanbases up whenever someone’s favourite player loses! Heated debates can be entertaining to a degree but I think a lot do cross the line and it just turns into a nasty slanging match (with the player being the one receiving abuse) and achieving absolutely nothing…

Just my two pennies worth.
