So now that Emma's had to pull out of Austin due to Tonsilitis, the next tournament that she's still scheduled to play is a big one : The WTA1000 event @ Indian Wells. I'm assuming that Emma will be playing this event. Should there be any further information regarding her participation, I'll post it here in due course.

This event takes place in the desert @ Indian Well, California from Wednesday 8th March - Sunday 16th March 2023. It's a 96-Player Draw, with the Top 32 Seeds receiving a BYE into Round 2.

Emma received a wildcard for this event, and because she's unseeded will play this event from Round 1. The good news is that she won't face a seed first up, so here's hoping the draw gods are kind to her this year.

The draw will be conducted this weekend and will be available on this page when it's been completed.

In addition, any talk surrounding Emma's participation in the Tie-Break-Tens Eisenhower Cup can go here as well.

Emma's Round 2 match will be against M. Linette and will take place on Saturday 9th March. Scheduled for 11AM (9PM GMT) on Stadium 4.

As always, the matches will be available to download in the relevant thread at the top of Emma's Empire. I'll try and get them uploaded as soon as possible.

I'll keep this thread updated with more information as and when it's received over the next few days in the run-up to the main event. As of now, any discussion pertaining to the tournament itself, Emma's involvement in it and even the qualifying matches can go in here.

Let's goooooooooo!

She may not need her WC. She’s one out of the MD.

On the day the Austin thread was started, I said that I thought Emma would win it, and I did; however: fickle fate intervened. I think only a crazy person would claim that Emma will win IW, at the start of this thread, given her now-customary lack of proper preparation, but I will still go out on a limb and say that Emma will do well here. From what we saw against Ons, how she performed in NZ, and how well she played in Melbourne (despite her problems) I'm expecting her to do well, at IW, and I'm hoping we actually see a further improvement in her play, compared to those matches, as she and Seb have now had more time to work together. Of course, 'the luck of the draw' is very important, but without the benefit of seeing that, yet, I'm still going to say that Emma will win (at least) 3 matches here.:giggle:

I can't remember what the weather was like at Indian Wells last year but are evening temps of 12/13 degrees celsius (mid 50s F) normal? Seems a bit chilly next week. Daytime highs of around 19C/66F.
It’s been on the chilly side this year esp here in the Bay Area! I remember the first couple days/nights being very windy in La Quinta!
And dusty haha! Then it subsided and was super nice but a bit windy during some matches.
I always got cold in the grandstands at night so I’d go to the car and grab a jacket around sunset! 66 seems chilly for sure wow it was hot during the day last year!

Yeah! Emma beat Caro first round last year so anything is possible ❤ hoping for another victory for her to get her confidence back

Yep, the level played in the Mubadala exho was very high from both players, probably some of the best tennis Emma has played since the USO in 2021 imo. If she can bring that level, or more, she’s got a good chance of making a dent in IW and/or Miami, draw dependent too of course.

I’m just skeptical as to how rusty she is going to be considering she won’t have played a match for two months, we haven’t seen her hit a ball since the AO and she’ll likely be up against someone who’s played a number of matches in the last few weeks alone so I’m not going to get my hopes up too much at this stage. She may positively surprise us all and come out of the blocks flying though (although hopefully not too much flying as we don’t want another injury 😨)
