An unexpected quarterfinalist as a teen at the 1981 US Open. A qualifier, Barbara lost a close encounter to #11 seed Barbara Potter 7-5 7-5. On her way to the quaters she upset #7 seed Wendy Turnbull 7-5 6-3 in the 3rd round. While she never again got to the final 8 in a slam, Gerken did finish inside the top 100 from 1985 to 1987.

Gladys Imperial was one of the top Filipino players of the 1970s and 1980s, and successfully represented her country in competitions such as the Asian Games and the Federation Cup. In Fed Cup competition she represented her nation in 1974, 1978, 1979, and 1981.

Baptised María de la Concepción Fernández de Liencres y Flórez, this player notably won the first ever women's singles event at the Spanish National Championships, in Santander in 1925. Concha Liencres came from a wealthy family and her siblings Teresa, José Tomás and José Miguel were also lawn tennis players although they, like Concha, probably didn't take part in many tournaments.

After a long illness Concha died in a sanatorium in 1939 at the age of only 37. This was a time of great upheaval in Spain and her brother José Miguel had been murdered in Úbeda in 1936.

Mien Suhadi notably won the women's singles event at the Bandung Open in 1960 and at the Jakarta Raya Championships in 1962. With her compatriot Jooce Suwarimbo she also won the bronze medal in the women's doubles event at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 1962.

Indonesian #3 in 1969 and 1970.

This player is sometimes referred to as Yoce or Jo Suwarimbo, or Tri Soewarimbo Yolanda. She was one of Indonesia's most successful players of the 1960s. With her compatriot Mien Suhadi she notably won the bronze medal in the women's doubles event at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 1962; at the same competition in the same year Jooce Suwarimbo also won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event with her compatriot Sofiyan Mudjirat.

One of Indonesia’s most successful tennis players, Hilly Tijoe, later Mrs Kwee Tjoen An, notably won the women’s singles event at the Indonesian Championships in Semarang five times in a row, from 1955 to 1959.
