Surprise 1997 Wimbledon quarterfinalist. Upset #5 seed Davenport in the 2R and backed it up by going all the way to the quarters, where she had a respectable 6-3 6-2 loss to eventual winner Martina Hingis.

Posted additional career wins over Anke Huber and Chanda Rubin. In 2000 she reached first Tier II final at Hannover, having trailed Sidot 2-5, 0-40 third set in SF. She lost the final to #1 seed Serena Williams.

Not naturally gifted or talented ... she trained hard... and hit very powerfull and flat. She really gets good acceleration on all her shots by leaning into the ball and using exaggerated shoulder rotation.

About her win at Palermo

I arrived in Palermo with quite low confidence and with the pressure that if I didn't reach the semi-finals, I would play qualifying at the US Open. My coach at that time was Daniel Pereyra, who decided not to go, so I was alone that week. I went from lowest to highest, feeling more and more confident. I served well, seeking to hit the first serves more and play offense.

The final against Zvonareva I was 5-2 up in the first set and I wasted several set points due to nerves and when I lost the first set 7-6, with so much heat, I felt very tired and I thought that the only way to turn it around It was going out to attack her and getting deeper into the court and going to the net. I won the next two sets being very offensive, and it really was one of the most emotional moments of my career. I dreamed of winning a title from the year before that I had lost the final at Bol 6-4 in the third. I didn't imagine it was going to be that week ... "

One of the rare Indonesians, male or female, to crack to the top 100. Of Chinese descent. She retired from the professional tennis circuit in 2007 due to an injury and has been actively promoting tennis in Indonesia since. Besides teaching tennis, Wynne is the co-founder of sports management company Sportama.

Her father, who wanted his daughter to play pro tennis, built a tennis court in his backyard.

Doubles proved to be her forte-together with Janet Lee she made 5 WTA doubles finals, qualifying for the final 8 at the 2002 WTA Championships. Her doubles ranking peaked at #24 in February of 2003.

I was forced to retire due to my back injury that I had been struggling with for the last five years of my career. I had to choose between my life or my career, the doctor that was treating me only gave me two options - have more operations or retire. But he couldn’t guarantee that I was able to play full time again after the operations. At the end, I decided to retire when I was 25. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I had to do it.

OSTERLOH, LILIA
United States
Born 07 April 1978 in Columbus, Ohio
Married Daniel Snape, a British citizen,in 2014
Height: 5' 7" (1.70m)
Played: Right (two-handed backhand)
[Active 1995-2010]

The Filipino-American player was the was the No.1-ranked Junior in her home state of Ohio and in the United States, and the No.2 Junior in the ITF by the time she turned 18 - but instead of transitioning into the pro tour straightaway, Osterloh chose to hit the books for a while.

Won NCAA crown for stanford in 1997 and decided to turn pro later that year. It was also the first time she played the US Open. “I’m gritty and I never give up,” said Osterloh, who is known for her mental toughness and for hitting heavy groundstrokes.

In 2000 Osterloh reached the 4h round at both Wimbledon and the US Open. Found memories include upsets over Mary Pierce in 2000 over #55 Mary Pierce, competing against Monica Seles (“the best returner in the world”) at Stanford’s Bank of the West Classic, and stunning Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the second round of 2001 Wimbledon,

She also forms a part of a unique piece of women’s tennis history, contesting the first women’s doubles match to be aired live in prime time. Partnered with good friend Kim Grant, she took on Jennifer Capriati and Martina Hingis at the US Open in 2001.

“I had lost my singles match to Jelena Dokic on Grandstand, and then Georgina [Clark, the WTA supervisor] came in and she was like, “Lilia, you’re on in 20 minutes! You’re prime time at 7:30, on TV!” she recalled with a laugh.

She would return to Stanford to earn her degree in 2013, majoring in International Relations. She now works as a tennis coach.
