That Sabatini match against Mary Joe was devastating to watch as a massive Gaby fan. She did to us all again however, when she lost in the semis of the Lipton tournament to Kimiko Date 1-6 7-6 7-6 having led 6-1 5-1 there.

Believe me it's even more shocking to have watched.

I think that match against MJ Fernandez killed the rest of her career

I saw Gaby vs Kimiko, it almost made me cry, she had so many chances to finish it off .

What about that match , when Natasha was losing badly to someone and asked umpire if she could quit because she didn't really want to play, and when she was not allowed she got pissed off and won the match..

Wasn't that the Eastbourne '99 final ys? I wasn't aware that she asked to quit. Tauziat didn't know what hit her when Zvereva got motoring.

DF, I think you are referring another match, with similar scenario, however. The match I am talking about, AFAIR, was in Australia..

Jana also had that well-documented collapse in the Wimbledon final of '93. She was dominating the match, then at 4-1 in the 3rd, couldn't keep the ball in the same zip code. She did another fold against Hingis in the 1998 US Open semis, with a shot at #1 on the line.

I'd say Gaby's 2 collapses were worse. Whereas Jana had seized control of her matches, and had big final-set leads, Gaby was completely dominating her matches.

I remember Gaby's match against Kimiko. I was rooting for both, so when it was 6-1 5-1 I did not want to watch it anymore as I felt so bad for Kimiko and than my mom called me over and told me Kimiko won the 2nd set. LOL! I wish I could've seen the 2nd set! But it was a great 3rd set! Felt bad for Gaby but happy for Kimiko.

I just wanna say that Jana´s colapses where as HUGE as gaby cause were at final stages of grand slams, jana could have won that wimbledon and also that Usopen, but also Gaby in 93 was some shock from her but really Mary Joe Stepped up the play, and really almost won that french open remember Fernadez was up 2/0 in that final set against graf, adn also 4/3 with breaks, i have all of this matches we are talking about in tape, and that turned out to be the best match of 1993 that Sabatini-Mary Joe match, as for tennis magazine, definelty that Lipton semi against Date was as horrible as posible they had like 150 unforced error between the two players, that was the worst match of 1995 as tennis magazine catalogued it.

As for Jana´s loses hmm where horrible too cause Graf did nothing great just put the ball in play and jana won a couple of more points after being 4/1 40-30 on her serve, and aganist Hingis was pretty much the same, Hingis only put the ball in play and let Jana self destruct.

One big lost can be that Serena Williams lead over Arantxa at frech Open 98 she was up 6/4 5/2 and the serve to close out the match and ended losing 4/6 7/5 6/3. Serena was playing her best tennis there, she could have definetly won that Roland Garros

I think that Jana's 1998 loss to Hingis at US open was a real tragedy - she was coasting to victory and had a good lead in the second set before the collapse.

You could argue it was the pressure of beating the world no.1, but seeing how cleverly she had despatched Martina at Wimbledon a few months before I don't believe she though she couldn't do it.

It was a real shame .
