Although, in the absence of Venus and Serena Williams from this year's US Open, Venus's 122mph top serve of 2002 wasn't equalled. The average serve speeds for the women are up in 2003.

Last year at the US Open eleven people served 110 mph or higher. This year sixteen women served 110mph, or more despite the absence of Venus and Serena from the figures.

I don't know.

Number of Aces is dependent on several things unrelated to the server:

*The speed of the opponent.
*Direction of the serve.
*The length of the Match. 6-7 7-6 6-7 will give more Aces than 6-0 6-1.

Alexandra Stevenson is probably the best Acer with 11 in her one US Open Match, but her serve doesn't dominate enough to assure her a lot of victories.

'big server' has different meanings. it can mean purely power or it can mean power combined with placement and variation so the serve can be used as a major weapon. players like shaughnessy they have a pretty big serve but place the ball very well and vary it.

Point taken.

I think the best measure of Big servers are their %won on first and second serve, because for me, speed is just the 3rd most important in a serve. First is placement and spins.

26 aces was the top and that was done by Lindsay....nothing compared to what Serena uses to average: 50+ aces the last four years.
