Davenport. She was still able to maintain good pace and placement even without a full swing, and IMO she uses it better than these other players to create an angle, especially when pushed backwards. She uses it better than anyone else to maintain an offensive advantage in the rally even when she has to deal with deep shots at her feet.

All the others lose a substantial amount of oomph on their FH when they revert to the helicopter swing imo. Does Serena use it a lot btw? I can't picture it for some reason.

Clijsters and Lindsay.

Nope.

Serena has a very early racket preparation and is hardly ever late on her fh to have to use the helicopter technique. She has a very solid technique and superb body weight transfer on that wing.

she used it a lot in her RG loss this year, don't know if there was a reason for it, but when i was looking at the highlights there was more helicopter FHs than regular ones.

Also I think Sharapova, I never really saw enough of Lindsay playing to say her, but Maria uses hers when she's draw out wide and then goes CC, and its usually extremely powerful, so I think she hits it pretty well.

Yeah. Maria's is the only one that really stands out in my mind as being good.

Capriati was great too

WTF Azarenka is doing in this poll??? She shouldnt even be compared when it comes to forehand to the great players on the poll

only two players perform this shot technically OK - Nadal and Sharapova.
And even they are not always successful...
Helicopter technique is never "technically OK" though. When Sharapova uses it (mainly due to how lazy her footwork is), a lot of the time it lacks depth and pace. And it's defintely not as good at redirecting the pace in the same vein as Davenport was.

I only think Maria's helicopter FH is good is when she's forced to hit all out on the run. Otherwise it's probably a rather weak shot.
