No thread? :uncheer:

Anisimova started very slowly but managed to lock in on serve in the final two sets, which really made the difference. FS% was in the 70s in Sets 2 + 3, with 84% FS points won in Set 2 and 77% FS points won in Set 3.

Muchová played well but lost to the superior ballstriker on the day. With the loss of last year's Beijing points, she now falls out of the Top 20.

I can see Anisimova number 2 until Doha

Impressed by this turnaround from Anisimova. I noticed that when Amanda smiles or laughs at herself after some bad miss she tends to play the following points really well, some other players could try this - among them is definitely Alexandrova.

Anisimova also had a higher first serve percentage than Muchy in the first set...
She complained about being in pain in the first set in her on court interview. She was almost in tears in the first set and started coming forward because she was being outplayed from the baseline.

Muchy's level dropped the moment she went down her first BP and Amanda started playing much better.

It's not the matches where Muchy plays 💩 which is why she has 1 title. It's the fact that she still can't win the matches where she playing well. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. She can't maintain a high level for long enough in tight tough matches. I think she needs to drop down a level (in between the injury lay-offs) to gain more experience at smaller tournaments.

Mandy will play much more competitive matches against the rest of the field so it's a win for the tournament anyway.

Muchova is a delicate beautiful butterfly that only thrives under the most optimal conditions, like playing against Maria Sakkari.

Amazingly, in addition to her piss poor 1-5 WTA tour level finals record, she was also a dismal 2-8 in finals on the ITF circuit when she started her career.

And this is a player who has reached a grand slam final and multiple semifinals. In contrast, Svitolina has won 18 tour titles without reaching a slam final. Radwanska and Jankovic, both one-time slam finalists won 20 and 15 titles, respectively.

Sureoy you mean Aryna Sabalenka ?

She struggles against Muchova more than Sakkari does

A tricky match for Amanda, but again, once she got it going it was basically game over. I am still in awe at her this year as a fan from day 1.

In fairness, she should've beaten Pegula both of those times and Keys at least once. Gauff is a poor matchup for her. I think a lot of it is her lack of a consistent topspin backhand and trouble with higher balls on the forehand. Those seem like relatively minor tweaks to me, but she hasn't made them so...

Amanda is ranked #4 and has been doing a very credible impression of a top 3 player since the grass court season. Really good consistency at big events, especially because her game can be so hit-miss: if she's hitting the ball well off the ground, and she can beat anyone; if she's not, she can lose to anyone. Hope she makes the final from this half.

My first question is - who did Hon cheer for? She loves being the tour’s Miss Congeniality that one.

I think this is as good a time as any other to give credit to Anise's coach Hendrik Vleeshouwers (a.k.a. Henry the Butcher) and fitness coach Shadi Soleymani.. Neither is a particularly known' or renowned' character' but they're clearly guiding her very well' with all the improvements in physicality' mental toughness' consistency' focus.. Some coaching celebrities definitely could take notes.

Of course Amanda herself is also partly to blame for her success' but she definitely has the right people for that stage of her career around her.

Couldn't watch the match live so waited for a Canal+ replay. Amanda has cut down on the negative body language and seems to enjoy her tennis. I wouldn't think she'd bother to mount a comeback from 1-6 even three years ago. Let's go! :cheer:

It's great to see Anisimova apparently embracing her top player status instead of immediately fading away after a big result, which I was fearing might happen especiallly after the Wimbledon final disaster. She has a likeable personality and one of the best games to watch when she is on (personally my favorite of all players) so I hope she will be up there and contending for big titles for quite a while.

Win/Win match.
Amanda thru and hopefully continues her good form, would love to see her win a big title before the year is through. Also Karo continues to comeback into form and finishes a 3 set match uninjured!
That stat about losing to all the top Americans for Karo is crazy! She's such a tricky matchup for most of the tour.

I thought Muchacho was going to go on a run here but Amanda is fighting really well this season. Can she clear Paolini for me next?

Anne Isimova was absolutely horrible in the 1st set - and when that initial set concluded, no doubt many people were anticipating, with her past meltdowns and the most recent Wimbledon in mind, that she would simply go through the motions while sulking in losing the 2nd set in a similar rapid, uncontested fashion... or simply quit and walk off the court mid-match, as she has at times done.

But instead, she gathered herself, bore down, and tried to win the match - which she ultimately did.
I don't much like her, but she definitely deserves a lot of credit for this comeback. It was a refreshing change from what we've seen from her in the past.
