Looks like Dasha is on an upward trend However her serve is still a mess ... Kasatkina made about 10 DFs. Fortunately for her Katya was awful today, and unable to hit through Dasha's defence.
Woz-Kasatkina should be interesting. I'm sure Caro wants some revenge for their matches last year. Interesting that one of these two will make the PM SF. Who'd have thought this would be the case at the beginning of the tournament?!
Alexandrova seems burned out in the middle somewhere, and only tried a bit more at the end hitting herself out of Beijing. Dasha stringing 3 wins together - so sweet and also now meeting a fellow wall who needs wins in the QFs.
Serve is still a big problem, but her groundgame today was just awesome. You could sense the desperation from Alexandrova who just couldnt hit through Dashka. When she plays with this height and depth shes very tough to beat.
Need to wash my eyes out with soap after watching this match. Abysmal from both, really. Someone needs to tell Alexandrova that the ball is supposed to go over the net.
But good for Dasha to get a big points haul right before Moscow. It seems this happens a lot, a player getting a big bump in a flop season right before they are about to take a huge tumble down the rankings (Wozniacki currently, Mladenovic almost defending St Petersburg, Qiang Wang going on her USO QF run).
Kasatkina too talented for the slump not to end at some point.
People who hate her game still have no taste.
She's still not playing anywhere near her best, or even particularly well, but this is a much-needed baby step towards getting that confidence back.
Alexandrova's quietly been one of this year's most improved players, still a bit of Konta/Petkovic-esque rigidity that means she's prone to spraying UEs but if she continues in this direction, that serve might mean she contends for the top 20 next year.
