Of course it means something. This is a major milestone for most players, especially ones like Hon, who have been grinding in ITFs for years. Slam MD are a huge part of that, but the ranking itself carries a lot of weight for many players.

At 27 yrs old, it’s definitely looked at as a huge achievement. I’m sure she thought she would get there sooner, but grinding on the ITF’s for years and never breaking through, had to be disheartening. Good for her! I hope she can establish herself even more, and guarantee more Slam MD’s.

Persistence

 

I thought this was a really entertaining match.

Really nice variety from both, with some great slice rallies.

Priscilla hit some lovely backhand winners and Golubic was moving forward and volleying well.

Serve was a liability for both, Priscilla hit some DFs at really bad times. Still, though, she fought hard and fully deserves her top 100 debut.

 

The first time I saw Hon play was against Hsieh about six years ago. She greatly troubled Hsieh who just barely won the match. I thought Pricilla was a good ball striker and I thought she was on the way to the top 100 back then. The pandemic stalled her progress and she was very inconsistent when play resumed full time. It's really only been this year that she finally got a bit more consistent. Kudos to her for continuing to strive despite her career seeming to be caught on a treadmill like trajectory for so long.

 

Her extremely obnoxious fan must be really happy now.
